Is Trusteer/Rapport necessary to be protected by banks' fraud guarantees?

I have been using it since my Cahoot account was hacked about 3 years ago when a fraudster deposited £52,000 into my account and was using the account as a mule. I have an Apple Mac and never causes us any problems and keeps rogue sites at bay.0

@TheTracker.
Life does not revolve around what you want or what you say or do.
This is a mass consumer market with millions of customers - not a low volume high value bespoke business with only a few customers.
Customers in mass markets have two choices - either lump it or leave.
Nor is this software aimed at the minority on places like this forum who know what they are doing.
It is aimed at the idiots who click on anything, have the same password for everything and have no or outdated AV security protection and are still using IE6 as their browser.
The banks are not going to have special rules for the few competent when are millions who don't care out there.
So yes there will probably come a time when if you want to use the banks facilities you will have to obey their rules and they will start enforcing those rules more rigidly. AV not on their approved list? - sorry no access permitted.0 -

Of all the people who have bought it from me, not one has ever been attacked by a tiger.0 -

What I object to is giving both IBM and my bank (and their sub-contractors and sub-sub-contractors) permission to take a copy of any file on my PC whenever they wish. That ain't gonna happen, and if I have to change banks (or live without internet banking), then that's what I will do.
Other people may be willing to take the risk - but at least it needs to be an informed decision, with an understanding of what access you are giving IBM and your bank to your files.
Google, YES.I actually now only bank on my I-pad, not my Pc, with Rapport on, only because, after being hacked, I lost faith in my Pc, and It's showing all clear,I'm as paranoid as the next with banking, as I said to the Tracker above, one tends to get paranoid, perhaps that's what the Banks et.al want. I don't like the I-pad, prefer my Pc, so, to have to have peace of mind I opted for i-pad;They are as vulnerable as any Pc, but,. Like you, once trust is gone , change it; If only we could go back to the old way of banking, BUT, we cannot, and so, we have to trust someone, because, cash is soon becoming extinct;;perhaps Bit-Coin eh.?
I cannot use Rapport on I-pad, so, no problem, but, having Rapport on my suspect PC, it is showing something is trying to get on Santander, and it is not me.Could be false positive? Too old to lose sleep over it:-):beer:0 -
I won't install it unless it becomes compulsory. If it does I would most probably install it in a Virtual Machine, which I only use for the purposes of online banking.0

The answer for those idiots is for banks to disallow access from old browsers and to enforce much stronger passwords. Not to force the installation of 3rd party software.
I do not have to obey their rules. I can and will simply move elsewhere rather than do so. For instance, I will not use banks that require the use of physical tokens. Banks put these hurdles in the way for to protect themselves, not the customer.
The best thing that could be done to improve bank security is regulation that forces them to disclose the incidents their users have encountered as a result of their shoddy security.0 -

I prefer Avast and Malwarebytes, and hsbc , actually recommend it.
Then it,s third party ?
the banks always look out for themselves, but, it,s up to the user to do his part. good luck to finding a bank that beckons to your call.
as long as they cough up when things go wrong, they are not obliged to disclose why! Regulating banks is an impossibility, that,s why we are in this state ! 1984 !!!
suggest you buy a piggy bank!0 -
I spoke to Santander security 2 days ago having had huge problems with Rapport. I was told that in the event of a fraud I would not be penalised if I did not use Trusteer.
This was having explained that I had tried to use Trusteer with Explorer as it does not work with Chrome 43. I have had various messages in my attempts to load Trusteer - I need "elevated privileges" ( well we'd all like those I imagine) , I need to click OK on a dialogue box which failed to materialise, I need to contact support with the code Privunis Having contacted support at Trusteer 8 days ago I've received nothing apart from an automated email.
My contact at Santander agreed I had done all I could! He was happy for me to use Kaspersky instead.0 -
They can't force you to use rapport!
There is no way you louse fraud cover if you don't use it. It just wouldn't stand up legally.0
