Is Trusteer/Rapport necessary to be protected by banks' fraud guarantees?

So to clarify - it hooks API's to log your keypresses and 'check' you aren't re-using passwords, and it 'validates' sites are the "right" ones?
You've got it.
Now I am NOT a security expert but I expect the passwords are stored/encrypted in some sort of one way hash to ensure there is no way of de-crypting the stored ones into plain text - I hope.
To be honest Rapprt is not really intended for those on this forum who are in the most part either techie or at least techie aware.
It is for those who simply click on anything anywhere without a care in the world, open any email attachment they get, do not update their virus software (if they have any!) don't install the MS updates...and the rest.
And there are lots of them out there. Some even care so little that their attitude is if there is fraud on the account/credit card I'll complain and the bank will refund me. I know one who says this.
With this sort of attitude I do actually feel sorry for the banks having to deal with the problem of online security for customers.0 -
Like many people I use (not through choice) Rapport as it is suggested by RBS/Natwest.
I recently noticed as I have just built a new system, though it is not a new occurrence that over 90% of the disk fragmentation on my Windows PC is due to Rapport. So I do a defrag and it goes away until Rapport is restarted.
I raised a fault with Trusteer support and sent the complete list of files, over 3,000 of them.
I got various replies that this was unsusual and to go away and remove/reinstall the product from their various links they sent me.
In between from their level 1 support the questions became inane which were clearly a delaying tactic implying they have no clue.
Eventually I got through to a level 2 person who insisted I do the remove reinstall.
Ok I don't want to mess with my main PC so installed it on another PC where I know Rapport had never been installed.
Great did that , straight after reinstall I checked Rapport. There they were all 3,000 + files splattered all over the disk.
Great did a defrag and restarted Rapport there they are again.
Informed level 2 of this and have not heard another word.
I am in the process of checking with RBS as to whether the use of this product is mandatory if I do online banking.
Personally I think it is a real bag of worms and if their support is anything to go by not well supported at all.0 -
Use of the software is not Mandatory, its the banks way of pretending they are offering something useful to the customer when it actually isn't in the 1st place.
There are better alternatives out there than this software0 -
I once formally requested that Santander stopped this window popping up "reminding" me to load it. They couldn't / wouldn't help.0

Thanks for that.Halifax81....can you specify other products.
I use AVG security, also Malwarebytes and obviously firewall etc.
My PC is up to date with Windows fixes as well.0 -

Of course it it your choice!
You do not have to install this crap on your system just because some bank suggests that you do.
I have used internet banking since it was introduce with many different organisations and have never installed Rapport and never ever had any problem.:doh: Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
Quite right!
I don't believe in climate change and have never been flooded.0 -

Other than that there is no need to use anything else however I do use OpenDNS via my router and have Web of Trust on my browser (although I'm probably removing that soon).
There aren't many security researchers who have a good thing to say about Trusteer0 -

I,ve used it for years, andgot Hacked with it on(.A&L), or so they said;;, they made me jump through hoops to get them to unlock my A/c., and,I never found out why;
It started playing havoc after the last update,a couple of months ago, several users reported so.
I still have it on, I don,t notice it, no bother at present, but, It proves I,ve taken thier advice.
Like insurance companies, they will try and get out of paying if they can.
Guilty, until proven innocent nowadays;
It,s not compulsory, BUT, it,s the users choice.It,s free.0 -
Have you adapted your typing style to fool any key loggers too...?0
