..My understanding of this "promise" is that it DOESN'T apply to tariffs with a fixed end date -so any energy used after 30/4 will be charged at their (expensive) current variable rate:eek:

    Hopefully I'm wrong but ........................

Yes your wrong, it applies to every tariff offered by ever supplier and has done for ~6 months. Its was in phase 1 of Ofgems RMR.

I ended up with a bit of a gamble after very little research to be honest. Went for single fuels this time...with suppliers I'd never heard of until few days ago

Daligas for er..gas and Flow for electricity

Works out nearly the same as this outgoing blue promise April 2014 tariff...prices fixed for 12 months for gas and until 31st Aug 2015 for electricity....

No early termination penalties so I can leave the suppliers whenever in case of any bad experiences

Time will tell how it goes!

    Mortgage-free Glee!
I am assuming most of us on this tariff have now switched or are in the process of getting a better deal elsewhere. Ovo for me.

Don't forget, even if you are in the process of switching, take a meter reading today and enter it on the EDF website. Even though I am over 2 weeks away from my switch and EDF have limited my access, you can still enter your meter readings.

Some on these boards have stated that EDF will probably honour the price promise up to the switch but I'm not 100% sure.

I just prefer to have an accurate reading up to today, rather than too much estimated bu EDF, particularly if you have gone a while since your last meter readings.

Good luck with those meter readings folk & good luck with whomever you switch to.

    Indeed.

I was getting to do a switch in the next week or 2 (probably separate suppliers for me this time) but I've received a letter from EDF today.

Final paragraph about what if you want to change supplier includes:
If you do decide to leave, as long as your new supplier tells us by 30 April 2014 we'll continue to hold your current prices until you switch.

So I think I'll delay any application to switch for more like 3 weeks now and continue to take advantage of the current, cheap EDF tariff for as long as possible

Well EDF have failed spectacularly in that undertaking - not that I'm surprised.

Received final bill today. Been billed at their expensive standard tariff rates since beginnng of this month. Not happy!

Call centre turns it's phones off at 2pm and don't open again until Monday.

Email via online account says they should get round to looking at it in 10 working days - 2 weeks!!!:mad:

Surprisingly, their online chat is open. They've agreed (eventually) they've got it wrong, but can't do anything until Monday anyway.

    What's the point?

They also claim to have refunded me the credit balance. Not sure how. Will investigate that once we agree on how much my bill should be, so therefore how much they should be refunding me.

    Quick update on events.

So rather than taking up to 10 working days to respond to my first email, they responded within the hour on Saturday afternoon.
But all they said was they could see the issue had now been addressed via online chat.

You remember the chat resulted in the fact they couldn't resolve this until Monday anyway. Well I've heard nothing since :(

I did receive a paper copy of the original final bill this morning.
Also I see they have credited my bank account with the amount they believe I am owed (which, of course, is in dispute) ... but at least that answers how they pay you back :)

Formal letter of dispute now in the post.

    Final update (hopefully)

EDF called today following my letter of complaint (I used the freepost address from their website) and they proposed to settle this matter by way of a goodwill payment that would far exceed the value of any refund owed if they bothered to rebill me correctly.

I prefered to accept this as it still leaves the possibility in the future of a further refund should Ofgem get wind of this malpractice ... It's happened before with a different supplier as when mass refunds/compensation are ordered by Ofgem, the supplier forgets/overlooks/does not remember the reason for the goodwill payment.

So for anyone who has just finished this tariff with EDF, I urge you to look carefully at your final bill and if they have charged you at their expensive standard rate for a few final days after 30-Apr-2014 - complain! They agree it's not right and there is free money on offer as a result.

Looking carefully at my final bills gives me the same sc elec 14p gas 22p for this tariff and the 8 days before my switch. The unit rates are as follows elec before end April 11.13p , 1-8 May 10.15p. Gas 3.402p then 3.115p in same order. Yorkshire region , I don't understand. Plus vat of course.

If you are looking that carefully you will see the bill clearly states the name of which tariff you have been charged at for which period.

You clearly are not being charged at the suppliers standard variable rate, so unless you asked for something different, I suggest you contact them and find out why they are charging you on the tariff they are.

So what tariff does it say you are being charged at, as those unit rates seem incredibly low for any EDF tariff currently available for the Yorkshire region.

Why did you even switch supplier, if they were offering you those low rates?
... and why did you wait for the April 2014 tariff to end???

The bills say tariff: price held.
Not had any contact with them verbally and don't intend to.
They weren't offering me those low rates and the Aug 2015 fix wasn't around at the time so it was a 3 figure increase if I stayed.
Have a looks at post 173 & 178 by molerat on the extraenergy thread he appears to be similarly baffled with the same issue. As I posted I don't understand.
