Yes me too. opted for nominee, got the relevant emails, now just got home from a week away to find I've received what I assume is a certificate? I hope I've not been charged extra for this??

OK now I have been trying to follow this thread for advice but am getting slightly bogged down with some of the sarcastic comments which seem to take up a few pages. Here is what I wish to know, and hopefully someone can advise me.

We got our certificate yesterday, we don't intend to sell as yet, do I still need to register it on the shareview website. I get so far but then panic in case I end up selling by mistake. Can I just register it on X-O which seems the best place, and again can it be registered without selling or do I just register it when we intend to sell.

Yes we are new to shares, made a last minute decision to buy them, don't need the money now, it was always our intention to hold onto them. Hope all this makes sense.
    Thanks :)

I have a Royal Mail share certificate.

Can anyone tell me how I sell my shares cheaply online?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Did the people who opted for the shares to be held in the nominee acc receive a letter with a statement, shareholder info, etc today
or was that only for the people who selected to have a certificate?

    Thank you.

Yes, if you ticked the box to receive the shareholder hardcopy pack, and per this post:

    http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.php?p=63488997&postcount=1860

And to anyone who hasn't read their shareholder pack, this is NOT a share certificate, it clearly states "Nominee Account".

It's just on rather nice paper, so could appear at first sight as a certificate.

  • Hi candjsmum.

You can register your shares in X-O without selling your shares, you need to request an account then download a CREST form found in their help/FAQ link. They will send you a pin for their account in the post so you can trade online. It should take 5 days from receipt of your shares to them being registered.

You can also sell straight away on Shoreview for a 45 fee, but least you know what you will be selling for. There is a cheaper postal option for 0.75 per share but you don't know what rate the shares will sell for.

  • Tom see my post above for X-O they charge 5.95 per trade or take the hit with Equiniti at their 45 fee.

You can also request a form D from Equiniti and have the shares put back into the nominee account and trade online for 17.50 Equiniti take 10 days to do this apparently.

  • basil, no extra charges but it depends on how you sell, to sell online via equniti it will cost you 45 if you register for X-O it will be 5.95 once your shares are registered on their nominee account.

  • I got my certificate today and was just in the process of completing the X-O crest transfer form and wondered, do you need to put your X-O account number somewhere or will they just tie it up to your name and address?

Thanks mcscoty1973 for your invaluable help on this thread to those of us who received Share Certificates and are possibly looking to sell. Your post number 1760 on this thread which is basically re-produced below was most useful.

To bring together all your useful advice, is this where we are?:-

    1. Don't sell your Royal Mail shares with a Share Certificate unless you are prepared to pay a dealing fee of at least £45.

    Instead your options include:-

    1. Ring Equiniti (0121 415 7593), or email them. Ask them to send you a form, called a 'D Form', to transfer your shares into the Nominee Account. Obtaining the form is free and transferring the shares into the Nominee Account is free. I rang Equiniti on Thursday, and my form has arrived today. Fill in the form, send it back with your Share Certificate and after a few days, I can then sell through either the automated phone line for £7.50 on or before 8th November or for £17.50 through Shareview.co.uk

    2. Open a Nominee Account with dealing firm x-o (https://www.x-o.co.uk), print off a CREST form which you can do from their site and send it back with the Share Certificate. Their dealing charge is £5.95 and once you have received the pin / trading number they send you in the post, you can trade with them.

Obviously whether returning Share Certificates to Equiniti or sending to x-o will incur Recorded Delivery postages charges, though is considerably cheaper than trading with a Share Certificate.
