SFD today, although actually had work expenses, but these get refunded so I don't count them.
We all just got called down to the conference room as the partners announced that they need to cut costs in the business. They are proposing a 10% pay cut across the board. All employees have to vote unaminously for it though. We're meant to meet and discuss and give them an answer on Friday.
10% is a lot to me. It's about half my debt busting money/disposable income. But then I think that 90% pay is better than 0% pay. And that's true for all of us at the company.
The chairman is open to other ideas, or just ideas. I'm thinking of suggesting taking a half day off the week (equivelent to 10% of working time), because I would find it really useful to have that extra time to freelance etc. and I might have a good chance to up my income that way. I will sleep on it. Got to find a way that that might work for other too. Yes she is single at the moment and I know she would love not to be. I am grateful for my house, family, OH (most if the time!) and my pets
It's bad, I'm a really jealous person, I blame it on the red hair gene, although it seems to be fading to brown now I'm olderMaybe my jealous streak will fade too.
Aiming for a SFD todayI'm home and hopefully won't be going anywhere else

We did this at a company I used to work for, although we all went down to 3 days a week. I was able to do some work experience and change careers, which in the long run was betterWe also gave up our company benefits. I hope it all turns out for the best.

- I think I have just discovered something that has excited me even more than geocaching....:j
My friend is arranging a secret 'flash mob' in our local town during Christmas shopping in December. She's got confirmation from the local council so it is all very exciting. I shall be partaking in a series of dance routines during a 5 minute flash mob dance in the middle of town whilst out with the Christmas shoppers. Of course I shant be shopping just feigning a bit of shopping and then with a bunch of others (all ages) we suddenly bust into a dance routine when some music is suddenly played. heheh. Secret fun!
Another SFD today. SFDs= 16 :T:coffee:

karmachilovething - What a hard position to be put in. However, at least you all are given the opportunity to come to a type of compromise. I think your suggestion sounds very feasible and an opportunity to make money else where. Good Luck!!:coffee:

Hello all! I'm reading but haven't been posting... Life is soooo busy!
I've been sticking to it :money::j:beer: But have lost count of totals!
Today was an NSD and brought lunch in from home: soup and bagel yum yum!0 -
Hello all! Not been around for a while as I went home to see family/friends for the weekend (being thrifty and leaving my car at a friend's while she kindly drove us the rest of the way home) and then got stranded there for an extra two days thanks to a horrid bug. After various buses and trains, my car has been rescued from outside my friend's and I am back home having eliminated the financial advantage of travelling home with my friend and gone a bit too far over budget. Oh well, at least I got to spend a couple of hours catching up with a friend - was still worth it! Most definitely not making my NSD target this month, but I have still been very thrifty (took packed lunch on the train today) so I'm not too disappointed over that. Also I remembered to book the train tickets via a cashback site so at least I've made a bit back from those.
Hope everyone else is on target and avoiding the various winter illnesses!Novuna personal finance 0% 4-year £518/£1866Credit card debt free! Now on the journey to mortgage free.0 -

You can never know what happens behind closed doors and how a house is made a home. You never know how much debt your sisters/brothers have that they don't think is "real" debt so they are ignoring it. You can never tell whether in their perfect little house that they are actually happy with each other.
Never covet what someone else has as you almost covet how they got to where they are. That might not be something you want to wish on yourself.
As for not getting any fun from the debt does that mean it's all OH's...? We have to take things as they are.. it's a temporary issue that yes might consume you for a while but will stand you in good stead to never go there again.
How long is your DMP for? If not the OH's debt is it an ex? I am not sure if you have mentioned it before and I don't want to pry I just want to tell you it can be done!!!
x
Thanks NSK, words of wisdom as ever! I know you are right... and I know really that my siblings lives are far from perfect (and not just re money ), and given the choice I would choose my life every time. Mostly when I see them I come home thanking my lucky stars for my life. I think I was just on a bit of a downer. Reading the thread, a few of us seem to have hit one at the same time!
Yes, a big chunk is OH's debt from before we got together, and most of the rest is from us living beyond both our means since we met due to a long run of bad luck - house floods, car accidents, car floods, medical stuff, and a little bit is from our wedding. But, I mostly feel pretty philosophical about it, the debt from being together we couldn't help, and I certainly don't regret the wedding. I'd choose to be with him, with any amount of debt and live off cold beans forever rather than not be with him. And I chose, and would choose again, to put our money together, and to be a team to pay it off. It was a no brainer for me, together we can do it quicker and move on with our life.
We hope to be DF between Oct and Dec 2015, if we are very frugal for the next two years, and barring any more ridiculous disasters - fingers crossed! Which doesn't sound too bad, but that takes me ever nearer to the big 40 without a home to our name, and the chances of having a family drifting off into the ether... that is something to think about later, one thing at a time.
Speaking of which, I am feeling good about things again today, and had SFD 15. I took the day off to help sis in law with hospital stuff, which was good news in the end, so it was a nice day. She treated me to tea and chocolate in the hospital cafe, and we got a free dinner tonight at MIL's, plus left overs to bring home for tomorrow- yum.
Phew, Sorry for the mammoth post. But happy to share with you guys, as you are keeping me strong! thanks :beer:LBM Aug 2013 - DEBTS AS OF THEN £25,150  now: £0 :j

Hello,
I've not posted this week yet but reading all of you! I'm not doing too bad all in all! I'm upto 16 SFDs! and I've taken lunch to work every day! :A
Some budgets have gone a few pounds over. I have spent £21 more than planned so not too bad, but this just means I can spend less on my social event on saturday. I WILL NOT go over budget for the month!!
Over the months I have reduced my beuty spends....cutting the end of tubes to use for another week....downgrading my favourite gold tin hairspray to supermarket own....using olive oil as moisturisiser....talc instead of dry shampoo....and bizarrely hand cream in place of hair serum. But I think I finally have to relent and buy deoderant, I am at the dregs of the can and am pretty sure there is no alternative to the real thing, so off to hunt for the cheappest option tomorrow night!
I've been rubbish with making the extra money, but work and studying has been so hectic I just havent found time.... MUST DO BETTER
I agree with the comments about envy of others, a close friend has told me her parents are "gifting" her over £50,000 for a house deposit! She herself earns more than me and my partner put together, and her partner earns the same again! They are contributing nothing themselves as they have no savings, yet me and my OH have slaved for the last 18 months to save £20,000! Makes me really angry, but I remind myself how good we will feel when we buy that house ourselves with no help from anyone else. So just keep going everyone who has doubt, nothing feels better than acheiving your self-imposed goals!!October Awakening: Food £20/20 Petrol £50/50 Misc £190/194.01 Extra Earnings £100/196.56 SFDs 20/220 -
Evening all. Have managed a SFD at last, bringing my total up to 11. Packed lunch in work and jacket potatoes for tea. Have already taken tomorrow's tea out of the freezer and will make packed lunch in the morning. Hoping for another SFD tomorrow.
Have a good Wednesday and will check in again tomorrow.0
