Hotel Change ( Overbooked )

My Son left today for a 4 night stay in Prague. It is of course a 'lads' break but they are good fellas, University graduates ( for what its worth ) and absolutely no trouble. They all worked extra hours etc. to get the money together blah blah blah.

They arrived this morning to be told by their City centre hotel that unfortunately they mistakenly overbooked and sent them to another hotel, which is NOT City centre and has some awful reviews on tripadviser.

They booked it through 'teletext holidays' and I am look for a little bit of fairness for them.

For the record the original hotel was ranked 300th/660 hotels and the one they have been moved to is ranked 610/660 with some awful reviews.

I hope they have a blast an dont notice the poor treatment, but they deserve some redress and thought I would ask you guys.

Regards

  • The first paragraph is superfluous.

Secondly, I presume they have accepted this offered hotel and so far there is no issues? You are just thinking they should get some compensation because of trip advisor reviews?

Nope, I think you seem a wee bit tied up in your own self importance, so I will ignore your poor effort.

There is of course a financial differential between the hotel they booked and the one they have been offered as an alternative, so it seems reasonable to expect some redress.

My post is for an informative and considered view rather than yours.

So why would you not actually say that in your op then?

It just reads that quite simply, they have accepted this hotel, no issues thus far.

But you want redress on behalf of them for issues that have not yet arisen.
  • If the alternative hotel is cheaper than the one originally booked then the very least that the party is entitled to is getting that difference refunded.
Also, if they group were planning on partying in the city centre area and they now have to get public transport or a taxi to get there, asking for payment to cover this is fair.

At the time the alternative was offered, they may not have known exactly where it was located or how it compared to the one originally booked.

Rather than what trip advisor says, what do the party of boys out there think of it?
It's their opinion that really matters, after all it's their holiday.

How do you know for certain that over the next 4 days they are going to have "poor treatment", unless have you (and maybe they) already decided that is what is going to happen?
    1. Have you tried to Google the answer?
    2. If you were in the other person's shoes, how would you react?
    3. Do you want a quick answer or better understanding?

Same thing happened to me in Rome. I booked a nice 4 star hotel, turn up and they've overbooked and shifted me to their sister 3 star hotel which was in a slum, a single floor in a big block of flats. I complained and got 50% back.

Complain directly to who you booked the holiday with. I complained to lastminute and they gave me the refund.

Acceptance is an unreasonable criteria when you arrive in a foreign country and basically have a choice between taking the offered hotel or trying to find somewhere else lastminute.

Taking the offered hotel room does not mean you're happy with the resolution.

Dont be daft ..... if you are unable to recognise that if the alternative hotel is of a different standard and price, then you can lend little to this discussion.

This isnt about enjoyment or issues that have not yet arisen, its about the start of a trip where they have already been transferred to hotel in a different part of town, at a different standard that charges a cheaper price, it will inevitably incur a degree of inconvenience yet to be substantiated.

I was hoping that if someone could offer perhaps a legal stand point or offer their own similar experiences then it might give me an understanding to what I might want to do.

Thanks to the other contributors that have already done this.

Again, I hope that if they were offered just a tent they would enjoy their planned and paid trip.

Your logic seems a little flawed, as explained I am not sure that your example is really the issue, the issue is what they paid for and what they have received.

Maybe they feel, having now been transferred to a lower standard hotel in a more outlying part of town warrants some feeling of poor treatment.

My son is also a goodfella plays Premiership rugby and if he was away with his pals I would never be surprised as they are bound to get up to mischief!!

One thing is for sure they are over 18 and it is his problem which he can sort out ..........if he can be bothered. You can always offer advice but leave it up to him.
