  • £200 for 12 months. 05 plate 1.4 Clio (it's an auto) :(
  • 1 x historic vehicle = nil. 1 x Toyota Yaris 1.4 Diesel = £30/annum.
  • £270, but I think it will now be £280 when I have to renew.

    1. Have you tried to Google the answer?
    2. If you were in the other person's shoes, how would you react?
    3. Do you want a quick answer or better understanding?

    £490/annum and 23-25 mpg.
  • As mentioned in the overall running costs its very small.

Exactly. I illustrated it to myself last time I was looking for a change of car: thought of a few options for types of car I might want, worked out all the costs - fuel, VED, insurance, maintenance, depreciation - and drew the charts. And lo and behold, VED was lost in the noise. It barely registers. Of course, VED is likely to correlate with fuel costs, which are a big contributor to the overall, so if you apply money saving philosophy to your choice of car you are quite likely to end up with lower VED, but only as a consequence of you taking fuel costs into account. It's madness to pay much attention to VED when you're buying a car unless you don't intend to drive it.
  • £123.75 for my 2000 2.0 Accord.

I don't really check for the cost of the VED when I'm considering a car. As many have said, it's a minuscule factor.

£225 on a 2.0 turbo 6 cylinder car with no catalytic converter, terrible MPG (22 at best) and every time it overruns on lift, chucking unburnt fuel into the exhaust where it ignites, probably emitting so much CO2 that it also personally murders three polar bears and a baby seal in the process.

God I sound like Clarkson even writing that, but apart from the bit about the polar bears and the seal it's all true.

I have a Corsa 1.3 diesel and taxed it yesterday for £20.
I get an average of 57mpg for all driving.

I agree tax doesn't really matter whether it's £100-£200, but the £460 bracket is a big old whack each year, more than insurance. And you're guaranteed to have to pay it year on year. I'm not sure I'd consider a car in the £460 bracket.

Currently I pay about £400/yr, but that's "rego" in Australia and includes third party insurance. It's calculated by weight of car - $18/100Kg plus insurance premium (identical for everyone) and an admin fee.
