Used to have that happen every once in a while back home when I was little. Means the flour has 'gone off' and needs to go in the bin (would you risk eating one of those?). I know the name of the bugs in Spanish but not in English...

(sorry if I repeated what someone else already said, haven't read through all the posts)

I remember tht happening to me a few years ago, I thought I was getting a head ache cause the flour was moving. Then I looked closely and saw hundreds of wee beasties, I was horrified!
Taking responsibility one penny at a time!

They in fact live in the creases of paper and cardboard packaging, are completely harmless and a tad difficult to get rid of!!
I understand they in fact live off packaging glue!
If you start looking you can probably find them in the glued down bit at the top and bottom of all sorts of things.
Seem worse on old stock as they have time to multiply!
    Don't worry. Quite normal.:p

Those of you with these who area attacking the problem with water by washing everything down are going about it the wrong way.
These little pests don't mind the water, quite like it damp.
Best thing to do is get the hose on the hoover and clean out he cupboard that way to get in all the nooks and crannies.
Leave any canisters (after washing if you must) in the sunlight for a day or so and that'll make any hiding in any seams leave home.
    They hate sunlight.
I was told to do this about 20 years ago and have never had them since.

I havent read all though the thread so I hope Im not repeating. I had a huge problem last year with indian meal moths. They are the most horrible things and hard to get shot of. They lay eggs in all your flour rice, dried foods etc and hatch to this most awful brown moths. these things are evil, coz if you try to swat one, it goes for you  I had to chuck out nearly all my dried food last year coz the infestation was so bad - and I did find the nest in a bag of dried split peas...... It was as big as the bag and there were no peas left in it - only sand, web type nests and eggs!!!!

I've had the same problem with flour even though l store them in those click and seal tubs and put them in the coolest, darkest part of the kitchen cupboards, l'll try storing a box of matches in with them now.

I never had this problem in my old house it was much older although we did suffer slight damp problems.

    Happy moneysaving all.

I keep my flour in the freezer in plastic boxes since I had a psocid bout years ago. They're so tiny at first you think your eyes are playing up when they move!
  • They really won't hurt you if you eat some by chance and quite frankly I doubt if you'd even know if you hadn't looked.:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
