These are why I store everything in my pantry cupboard in kilner jars or Lock'n'lock tubs. I had an infestation of these years ago and they got into every single packet of dried goods in the cupboard. I had to throw the lot out. If on'y I'd known about Valli's hairdyer tip!
  • I kind of favour full chemical warfare when it comes to pesties in my foodstuffs. They can get in the cracks between the edges of kitchen cupboards, for example, and they will have contaminated everything.

At least flour isn't the most expensive thing to replace.

It's easy to give in to that negative voice that chants "cant do it" BUT we lift each other up.
We dont count all the runners ahead of us & feel intimidated.
Instead we look back proudly at our journey, our personal struggle & determination & remember that there are those that never even attempt to reach the starting line.

Firstly, don't beat yourself up about them. They were probably in the flour as eggs when you bought it. The airtight containers wouldn't have stopped them getting in in the first place. They will keep them in, though.

PS. There is a rice weevil, too.

PPS. The Extreme OS view is that they are free protein!

I thought you kept flour in the freezer and that zapped them?

Thanks for all the suggestions guys, will be checking all my pasta, rice etc thoroughly tommorow, however it looks like they were only in two bags so far, the first that I opened which had literally hundreds of them, and a second bag which only had a few!?! I had a quick look at my other flours and all seems to be okay, however I think I will have a sieving session tommorow, lol that sounds soooo weird to my wine affected brain.

Again many thanks, will spend tommorow wiping out my baking cupboard and giving it a blowdry, lol.

But if they were there already, they'd still be there but dead _pale_ ;)

  • Thread bump.

Huge, huge difference between weevils and psocids. Seriously. Huge.

We're all sorted now but we've got friends who live in another part of the country who got them too (the common denomitor - buying big bags of dry cat/dog food - apparently the pest controller said this is the reason they've had a 75% call out increase for these critters in the last 2 years - they harvest in them in damp, dark warehouses and the next thing is your house is CRAWLING with them.

They've had the pest guys out 4 times in the last 6 months - still can't get rid - not quite the same as finding a few weevils in a bag of flour!

If you put the flour in the freezer for an hour or so, this will kill any eggs that might be in it.
