A long thread on these horrible things and what to do - I just had them in some oats, seems I am lucky to have caught them early.

I'm not sure they are the same thing as in the kitchen cos they just seem to be on surfaces, and on walls so not sure what they are feeding on. There is no food to dispose of in the kitchen/bedroom so can't cut them off at the source like in the kitchen!
Have wiped all surfaces but spied a few in my sock drawer, wiped inside the drawer but they are so small they are probably in the cracks, don't get me wrong the place isn't crawling with them but it's stilll pretty gross
I don't know if they will be in the carpet, or if they will go into the socks and live there. I don't even know what they are! Dunno if I should wash all my clothes (have a lot!)

Hi
I have a can of Acclaim here which says it treats "ants, cockeroaches, ticks, earwigs silverfish, centipides, spiders and beetles" may work on mites????
Very effective on fleas - I can vouch for that.Avon Representative October 2010: C16: £276 :T C17: £297 :j0 -
Your best bet would be trying to tackle the cause of the problem rather than just getting rid of the booklice.
Need to try and get rid of the damp as well as ventilating the property a bit more.
Washing your clothes at 60ºC should do the trick if you're worried that the beasties are in the drawers.0 -

I know, we keep it as ventilated as we can but unfortuntely the landlord is refusing to fix the leaking chimney and the heating is rubbish so we're fighting a losing battle. We're out of here soon as we're looking to buy a house in the next 6 months so just putting up with it til now. Don't want to live with the beasties that long though!
Thanks everyone for all your helpful posts :beer:0 -
FunkyMonkey849 if your landlord is refusing to fix a leak which is causing damp then you can report them to the council, under the new housing act damp is classed as a hazard and the council can force them to take action (and even get an order to do the work and bill the landlord). I think that in some cases it is possible to get a rent rebate if the house does not meet the standard set out in the act. Call the council (or tell your landlord you are calling the council) in the first instance, ou could ask the CAB for more info on what your rights are.0

We had the council round and they told the landlord to do they work (there was a big list), they did most of it but haven't done the chimney - however there is conflict of opinion, we think the chimney is causing the damp, they think it's condensation and it's our fault, although we always have the windows open to keep the air flow. Anyway the council say there's nothing else they can do if the landlord won't comply and the only option left is for us to take them to court over it which is a lot of hassle and we'll be out of here soon...
CAB in our area are useless, calling all day and no answer, even going down there and it's closed
Ahh everything is a disaster! Environmental health are coming round tomorrow to identify the beasties, I have caught one in a jar for them to see! Hopefully they can treat, or at least give some tips on how to get rid.0
