Heating

  • I had it on for a couple of days (only half an hour in the morning) but I've turned it off again. I think it was the initial shock of the temperature drop that got me chilly, but now I've adjusted to autumn the heating will hopefully be off for a while yet.

I put the heating on Monday just gone as it was freezing! Since then I haven't bothered because we constantly have windows open whilst we finish decorating.

To be honest though I've always been of the stance that if I'm cold it goes on. My home is a place to feel comfortable and heating tends to be the last thing I scrimp on.

It's very easy to say however as there are only 2 of us and we work all day so it's only ever on anyway of an evening and for an hour on a morning.

I've just gone on maternity leave so we will have a little baby to keep warm soon and I will be home all day so my stance admittedly could change soon....

Sadly there's a good chance. My sister's stance was never the same after her first.

Why are they cold if the temperature inside is 19.5 C?

Do they complain of being cold outside in the summer when the temperature is around 20 C?
It's the difference between what you are used to. We were in 25 degree weather that suddenly dropped and our bodies didn't have time to acclimatise. In the depths of winter I set the heating to 17 degrees and feel warm enough indoors but the house is currently 18-19 degrees and I'm freezing. My body is still on 25 degrees mode.

After a few years of being really frugal with the heating plus the cold spring and sudden autumn I am totally sick of being cold and lethargic, so my heating is going on.
  • it was 3C here the other morning but hubby is determined to keep the heating off until mid October! Wood burners been on though the last couple of weeks so at least the living room's warm! This house is bloody freezing!
  • Well.....

DH decided to bleed the bedroom radiator. Took the nut thingy out entirely rather that just loosening it and then got it jammed in the key. Bedroom floor completely flooded.
  • apparently we're in for a heatwave over the next couple of weeks? Fingers crossed - I might get another couple of weeks out my summer frocks before i pack them away again!

Last year I finally got OH to realise that in order for insulation to keep the house warm, it has to be heated first.

We go by our Galileo thermometer. When there are two globes down, it's warm enough.

Not on yet, as we are enjoying lovely weather in Princeton, USA.
