Had it on the day before yesterday for a hour or two.. even I was freezing and I'm the biggest scrooge when it comes to putting heating on... in September is unheard of in our house. Trouble is once its been on OH thinks right that's the heating on for the forseeable... NO! NO! NO! I'm still trying to convince him it was just a cold snap and now the temp is on the rise again so it will be off for now didn't stop him hopping around in the bathroom this AM saying its bloody freezing in here, while I lay smiling tucked up under the duvet.... I really am mean!!!

Nope mine hasn't gone on yet and doesn't look like it will for the rest of this month. Forecast to be up in the low 20's at the weekend and into next week. Even this week where it's been sunny during the day my house has warmed up and stayed comfortable despite the outside temp dropping below 10.
  • I wasn't really that cold until this morning when the building maintenance company arrived and asked me to open all my windows so they could paint them. Now the heating looks inviting!
  • I live on the third floor in uni halls and it's ridiculously warm, I even have my window open. It was like this all of last year too, there'd be snow outside and windows would be open, it's like a sauna!

No way I refuse. We've had a couple of chilly days but I've just started wearing trousers & socks again, which did feel weird after the hot summer, and now looking at the forecast for our area it's going to be 18c tomorrow but then warming up to 22c for Sunday and next week so will be warmer again soon.

I think it feels warmer outside than inside as temperatures are taken in the shade, so if you go outside & sit in 22c but you're in the sun, you're probably really sitting in 26c or something.

It was 19c in our bedroom last night I found that cold so just got changed really fast. I wouldn't feel warm outside in 19c though either I'd probably have a light jumper on.

It will also depend where you live. My friend lives in the Lake District and its only gonna be 16c where she lives on Sunday and even when I stayed at hers in July I had to wear socks & I know she's got her heating on for over a week or two now, I remember her telling me as I couldn't believe it as it was high 20s here & I had a fan on lol!

Ours is never technically off, just fiddle with thermostat. It's been on for almost a fortnight, and the thick rugs came out last weekend (wooden floor) windows all now closed, vents only open upstairs, will be putting a door curtain up at weekend and already put thicker curtains up at French doors.

I don't have heating. When it gets really cold I'll use my electric blanket or throw, and I have loads of blankets for the bed, sofa and computer chair. I've got a plug in oil filled radiator that I use if I really have to but it doesn't get the temp above about 10c in the middle of winter. I really hate my flat!
Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.
  • I'm glad I'm not that only one who begrudges putting the heating on, especially the middle of September.

No matter how long the heating is on for, the house never seems to get REALLY warm. My other half says she feels the cold more. But I'm not buying that.

We need to invest in cavity wall insulation and a room thermometer. Just out of interest, those people with cavity wall insulation, how much warmer does it feel? or is it more about retaining the heat?

If she's cold don't try to stop her getting warm for the sake of a few quid, women do feel the cold more:

  • I'm STILL re-paying a stinkingly (unsure HOW it was) high bill from last winter :( so I fully intend to hold off this winter as long as possible. hubby is already complaining but it really can be fixed with thick socks on and a couple of decent layers.
Some times you have to hold back to go forward to where you want to be.
