I know January is a tight month for most people so don't feel too down about it. The thing is you're doing great. You may be squeaking through the month but you're not giving up completely and relying on credit to get all of the shiny things. Even if you do have to dip into savings or get some credit, you're minimising the cost to yourself by sticking to your plans.
I have some heels I want to resole, but haven't done this before. How much does it typically cost you? Do they have to be a particular type of shoe and can the shoes be slightly damaged in your experience?
Also I think you can get cash back on a lot of the big take away chains for the birthday treat.
Hi
Yes the positive thing is savings not being used or credit.
Took my shoes in. It is the actual high heel I go through right to the metal. It is £7.50 for them to be done (national chain of cobbler) and although the black Patten is scuffed away and shows the white on the heel they paint this black again so they look good as new. Cheaper than a new pair of shoes anyway :T0 -
Not long back from DS's party. Much fun had by all. It was £161 in the end.
DS is sitting here opening his presents and is very happy especially with the £££ he has been given.
Dinner as I said is a takeaway of his choice he just isn't sure yet what he wants.
Weather here is rotten and I just can not get a heat in me.
So had a few spends today
£161 party
£13 food FF
£7.50 in the cobbler.
Only the FF and the shoes need to come off the £316 as the party was budgeted for already :T
Will update later with the takeaway cost but I have budgeted £20 so shouldn't be too much more.0 -
Well last post of 2013 :j
£10 spent as needed to top up our lotto account. Out on a euromillions for tonight, don't normally but it's NYE after all.
House needs a quick tidy, only got 1 more load of washing and the basket will be empty :j
I have done an inventory of all we have in the house so will print that off and put it up in the kitchen. Will need to get mince and chicken but that should be about all and I will get that on Friday.
Need petrol in my car but hopefully DH has some I his so I don't need to get any tomorrow ( I am sure there will be a petrol station open tomorrow)
Tomorrow is really the start of our economy drive or credt crunch as the kids are calling it :rotfl:so looking forward to getting 2014 started and knuckling down to saving.0 -
Happy New Year:beer:
New Years eve here was a quiet one. Yesterday was dinner was at family's so no cooking and even better no dishes.
So a few spends to record
£4.80 for a bottle of juice and crisps for NYE
£20 on petrol for my car
£2.22 on bread
£5 to DD as she is off to the movies with her friends today. She is taking some of her own money as well.
Checked online banking and if my calculations are correct we now have £226.80 left to do 18 days.
Will need to get mince and fruit tomorrow some bits for packed lunches but that should do us for at least a week.
Right off to put the xmas decorations away.0 -
Weather is not so good today bit wild.
Shopping done and spent £30.74.
Online banking checked and all balances out but now down to £196.06 to do 17 days. Bus fares to work already accounted for and all meals this week so shouldn't need to spend much this week.
Dinner will be left over chicken made into stir fry with prawn crackers (2 packs for £1 in foods).
Going to batch cook some lasagna, cottage pie and spag bol so there is plenty to eat next week without the hassle of cooking.
Kids want to spent their Xmas money and vouchers so might head into town tomorrow. Will need to pay for car parking though which is expensive.0 -
Took the kids into town today. DD didn't see anything she wanted to spend her money on and DS only spent £25 on bits and bobs. I also bought two tops using vouchers I had.
£4.50 parking and then £10 to pop up lotto account.
Dinner is a mixture of things from the freezer.
Didn't make my lasagna etc yesterday but will do it tomorrow.
Need to get a few bits again at the shops. We have gone through the milk, bread and cheese. Also forgot to pick up the kids juice to go in their pack lunches so need to get that. Shouldn't be much and once that it done no food should be needed till the end of the week.
So down to £181.56 to do 16 days.0 -
You can make it stretch
have you set up a spreadsheet to work out when and how much you can pay towards savings each month? My savings this month have been scuppered slightly as needed to buy a new hoover but I'm hoping to cut back elsewhere so that I can still make my £600 goal  xx
Mortgage Overpayments 2024/25 - September-December, £152.46. J- £103.27, F- £115, M- £91.50, A- £100, M- £200, J- £200. J- £200. A-£200, S- £221.34
Total- £1783.67
Goal pay off 1% of current mortgage in 1 year. £1650
EF- £442.41/500

I keep telling DH it needs to stretch OD and savings won't be getting used.
Have a spreadsheet but it's a bit basic aim is £1000 a month.
Hopefully you will make your £600 goal and I will make mine x0 -
Shopping done £13.62 spent.
DH needs petrol in his car so will be another £20
So that leaves £147.94 to do till the 20th
Lasagna etc all made so dinners all sorted for next week. Pack lunch stuff all sorted as well for next week and my bus fayres are sorted for work so really there should be no spends till Thursday when I expect the milk and bread to run out.
Although I expect the gas to run out by Tuesday but will only put £10 in if it does.0 -
If you ever see milk "yellow stickered", do remember that you can freeze it. If you put bread and milk in the freezer in future, it might mean you can avoid going to the supermarket. What would you get if all you got was what you were thankful for?0
