I got an unlock code from 18 months ago through http://freemyblackberry.com/ and I never had to use it. Do you reckon it may still be valid?
    The instructions are as such:
Note: No SIM is needed to unlock the phone.

    1) Turn off/Disable all connections (Bluetooth, WIFI and Network communications). The menu is located under Manage Communications.
    2) Go to Settings
    3) Go to Options
    4) Go to Advanced Options
    5) Go to SIM Card
    6) Type "mepd" (please note that you will not see what you type on the screen). With some blackberrys you may have to type mepd in capital letters (MEPD). A new menu should drop down. If your phone is locked you will see "Active" or "Enabled" beside "Network".
    7) Type: "mep2" (Hold ALT and press 2 to get the number 2) (Please note that you will NOT see what you type on the screen)
    8) It will ask you for the unlock code. Note: On the right hand side of the prompt you will see "X left", where X is the number of tries you have left to enter the code. NEVER let this number go below 4. Once you get to 0 your phone will be hard-locked.
    9) Enter the 8 or 16 digit unlock code and then press enter to confirm (only enter the unlock code once!!!!). You should get a "code accepted" message. Your phone is now unlocked!
*****If you get a "code error" please see the first question in our Questions and Answers section.*****
    10) Once unlocked Turn All Connections ON.
    11) Please reset your phone. You can do this in two ways: 1) remove the battery while the phone is on, insert SIM as desired and re-insert the battery. OR 2) You can press and hold ALT+RIGHT SHIFT+Backspace/Delete in that order.

Please note: If you plan on using your Blackberry with another carrier/network, please make sure your phone is compatible with the carrier/network you wish to transfer to. Please call the carrier or visit their website to find this information.

The code is all numbers, but when I type it, should I press the ALT key every time?

I unlocked some Blackberrys using free codes from somewhere, a couple of years back. I don't remember the exact process, but the important thing is that it worked.

You can also wipe your phone by entering the passwd incorrectly 10 times (it asks you to type "blackberry" twice of those 10.

The code will still work. Just follow the instructions.

Another quick query: BB normally gets your contacts from the sim and your email address contacts, in my case, yahoo (Bt internet). Will Android do the same or will I have to input them manually?

If contacts are on the SIM, they should get picked up.

Actually, but synching the btinternet account, all the contacts went on the phone. One thing surprises me though, this Android phone, Huawei Ascend P6 has a shocking battery life. Limited use, and the battery is down to to 15% after 13 hrs. Is there anything that can be done to minimize the consumption?

Turn off Bluetooth (and WiFi if you don't need it).

All smartphones seem to have poor battery life - the days of leaving a phone on standby for a month are long gone.

WIFI is on whilst at home, Bluetooth is not on.
Stand by for a month???? I'd settle for 1 day.
Today seems better, I turned down the screen brightness, I seem to be able to get more hrs out of it.
Or maybe the battery needs training and will get better the more I use it.
    We'll see.

The Blackberry Curve 8520 is completely refurbished thanks to all of you, and unlocked. In the meantime, my daughter has broken the trackpad on her 9320, so she will use my old 8520.
Is there any way of transferring all her contacts, sms and bbm from one device to another using BBDM?

That is what BDM does. Just search for a tutorial.
Backup her BBM contacts and store them on the media card..
