My Blackberry just died

Where exactly can I find the BB OS?0
-
-
I am in Italy at the moment with unreliable wifi. I will be back on monday and will have all the information necessary0
-
The Blackberry Swiss Army Knife (http://www.bbsak.org/) is a handy utility to use with Blackberrys; I've used it to resurrect defunct BBs.0
-
Finally resurrected. However, there is a completely different feel and look. For starters, in SET UP, Wizard, It only gives the email option of Blackberry enterprise server account, and not the various gmail, yahoo, hotmail I used to have. What happened?0

You probably didn't install the Vodafone software to which I linked.
Did you download and install both the Desktop Manager and the Vodafone software to the computer?
If so, you can plug the Curve 8520 in via USB and open the Desktop Manager.
Once the phone is recognised, follow these instructions
It will probably tell you that no update is available, but there should be an option to choose other versions at that point.
Like this:
You are looking for the one that says: v5.0.0.1849
If there is more than one, click on each and select the one that says 'Local Installation' or similar. Then choose Install.0 -
In fairness, the link in post 17 might be corrupt as all I got was " An error occurred while processing your request. Reference #50.94b178d5.1380573752.1daccd8".
So I googled Blackberry Curve 8520 Vodafone Uk Software and clicked on the first result. But I will give this latest instruction a go.0 -
The BDM states I have Software version 5.0 bundle 1849, which sounds very like the one you point out0
-
When I run the update, it states that an older version is recommended, so should I try the older version? I haven't yet as it states it may take up to one hour and it's getting late.
Sorry to be so pedantic, but I really appreciate your help.0 -
Do you actually have a BlackBerry Internet Service with Vodafone?
Are you Roaming with their service, seeing that you are in Italy?
If not then your Service Books have not been installed. So none of those Apps will appear until BIS is restored.
Go to Manage Connections > Service Status. Do you have BIS?
Also, you should unlock your BlackBerry. It's free. If you want to do it right now, then it's 99p
That way when you are in Italy, you can use a TIM SIM configured for BlackBerry. I think it costs 3€ per week with 300MB of data included. But you need to impress upon them it is for BlackBerry, not just the Smartphone option. All of your Apps will work as normal. Only your telephone number would change. Then you can pop the Vodafone SIM back in before you land in the UK.
Don't neglect to cancel the TIM package before you leave(or online when you get to the UK if you've set up an online account) or it will eat all of your credit.
TIM BIS
But if you reside mainly in the UK, you might want to register with the Vodafone SIM first and set it up for use there.
If you reside mainly in Italy, you can set it up with the TIM SIM as above and have an Italian BlackBerry address; timinternet or similar.
The Vodafone SIM will still work but the account registered with the BB will be from TIM. Of course you can still use Hotmail, Yahoo etc. whichever provider you choose.
It's up to you.0
