  • Not sure it's the best value, but my sipgate connection has been very reliable
  • Thanks for your reply BexTech.

    I thought the 0.030 rate was .3 of 1p.

The Malaysia rate was just an example but I'm more interested in the rates to India. It seems the rate is again 3p per minute instead of .3 of 1p.
  • on investigating voip - link below seems great for a 1 phone solution, just add a wifi phone

do you really need a DECT cordless phone if you only have voip say over Virgin cable BB ?

wonder if voice quality suffers though over wifi and DECT via
a PC adapter is better ? handset battery life on a wifi phone ?

I use a DECT via an adapter connected to my router (so no need for PC). The quality is as least as good as a regular phone and with the Linksys devices you can set them up so you wouldn't even know you wasn't using a regular phone line.

I have Virgin Media cable broadband and for 2 years was VoIP only, the only reason now I have a regular phone line again (this time Virgin Media) is VM are giving it me free with inclusive evening and weekend calls and caller display.

I prefer the ATA (analogue telephone adapter) and DECT route as you can simply replace DECT phones cheaply and have phones connected up and several DECT phones as you would a regular set-up.

The Wi-Fi phones aren't cheap and aren't brilliant, however if you can access decent free Wi-Fi then you could use it out and about - like a mobile but local number and cheap calls - however the chances of finding reliable Wi-Fi connection for VoIP are slim.

  • I agree with BexTech.
I followed his advice and have a similar system which works great, good quality calls, and the convenience of DECT. Definetly worth considering.

Me too using Linksys PAP2 at my parents house with a DECT and a Netgear TA612V at my house using a triple DECT. Fan-dabby-do
  • Agree with all the above. I have now also set up my VOIP via a Linksys PAP2 and DECT phone. It works just like a normal phone and the quality is just as good.

Out of interest, which VOIP company do you use? I use www.voipcheap.co.uk for calls to the USA and India.
  • thanks guys ! not going to go wi-fi then as just for dads house ? anyone any experience of porting thier BT number across ?

    thanks in advance

Hi, there, I'm looking for free calls from PC using VOIP and came across with http://www.internetcalls.com/en/ and UK is included as free to call. Anyone have triedit? it seems same company as voipbuster as the web looks similar.
Also I would like to understand how to use this service with my PC off. Thanks

They are part of the Betamax group, used by many here and on newsgroups, using various brand names such as VoIPStunt.com, VoIPBuster (their first), VoIPStunt etc.

    See: http://www.backsla.sh/betamax

You'll see there's many who give free calls to the UK landlines, but also have cheaper rates to UK mobiles.

To use the service with the PC off, you need either a Router with built-in VoIP ports to connect a regular phone up to (corded or DECT) or by an ATA (analogue Telephone Adapter) that you connect up to your router such as a Linksys PAP2 and connect your phones up to that, there are some in the Linksys range that let you use the phone for both regular landline and VoIP.
