VoipCheap: calling a computer with Linksys PAP2?
I have just signed up with VoipCheap and dialling out to normal telephone numbers with my Linksys PAP2 works just fine.
My question is......... I have a friend overseas who has installed VoipCheap on his computer only (no Linksys PAP2 or similar) he wants to be able to phone me when my computer is off, for free!!!, and therefore come through on my Linksys PAP2, if this is possible.
Any help to set up this option would be most gratefully received.
Using his Softphone he just needs to dial your VoIPCheap username, that is he types your username where you would normally enter the phone number to call. This will then be a free call. It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!(OK my English isn't great, the sciences, maths & IT are my strong points!)0 -

Many thanks for your answer, we will give it a try.
Just a thought. Say he has VoipCheap up and running on his computer and I want to call him using my normal telephone, for free, via Linksys PAP2. If it's at all possible, what would I have to dial?0 -

There's 2 ways I know of:-
You could set up a short-code in your PAP2 dial plan.
For example if your dial plan looks similar to:-
(*xx|0|00|<0:0044>[1-8]xx.|<999:00441216874070>S0|<:0044121>[2-8]xxxxxx|xx.)
You could add in when you dial 201 that it dials the username instead.
They don't have to be on the same Betamax service as yourself, for example you could be on VoIPDiscount and they could be on JustVoIP, or you could be on VoIPStunt and they could be on VoIPCheap and it will still work.
(*xx|0|00|<201:VoIPCheapUsername>S0|<0:0044>[1-8]xx.|<999:00441216874070>S0|<:0044121>[2-8]xxxxxx|xx.)
If there another user, you could add 202, 203, 204 etc.
(*xx|0|00|<201:VoIPCheapUsername>S0|<202:VoIPStuntUsername>S0|<0:0044>[1-8]xx.|<999:00441216874070>S0|<:0044121>[2-8]xxxxxx|xx.)
Capital S and a digit zero means dial straight away after you enter the number.
Or simply add them as a speed dial under the user1 / user2 settings.
You simply enter their username in the speed dial field.
Then when you want to call them you dial the speed dial number followed by #
For example 2# or 3# or 4#
Again you don't have to be on the same Betamax service. It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... I tried the above option, many thanks BexTech, as to me it was the most simple solution.
I have put in his username in a speed dial position 4# and saved the configuration.
Now, I pressed the speed number 4# but it didn't work. All I got was a continuous beep, beep sound. He was definitely on line and waiting for my call. Any ideas?0 -

Can't think of anything at the moment, have it working here. It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... OK, I have tested it and JustVoIP also now offers SIP so not only can you point for free a local number at this service, if you have an ATA it's possible to set this up on a SIP ATA.
Just VoIP also has good rates to UK mobiles.
Just getting into the VOIP. How do you get JustVoIP to work via a SIP? There are no instructions on thier website or mentions that they can do it.0 -

Use: sip.justvoip.com as the proxy and your JustVoIP username as the User ID.It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... When I do that I get VOIP: Recv 401 Unauthorized. Using a Speedtouch 716, all other betamax services work fine.
Edit: using my voipcheap username, I can call fine through sip.justvoip.com. Could it be that justvoip for some reason needs more than a trial account? Others don't.
Edit2: tried justvoip username through sip.voipcheap.com, same failure (message above, and a series of high pitched beeps on the line).0 -

Eureka! After much fiddling I managed to stumble on the answer to why it wasn't dialling and to why I was getting the beep, beep sound. Very simple really, the ENABLE IP DIALLING option was set to no. Changed it to yes, problem solved.0 -
Hi,
I was using voipstunt and recently noticed voipraider had cheaper rates to one of the countries I called, so I registered and paid some money in.
After making two calls I have noticed that I have been charged for a UK call
and also charged at a higher rates (approx 0.07 USD ) rather then the
advertised 0.012 USD.
I am using a Linksys Pap2. I have just been re-reading the website.
It seems to suggest that you will only get the free calls if you have
the person in your contact list. That may explain why I have been charged for a UK call. But not my other call (to Pakistan).
I am unable to find anywhere on the website where it suggests that you
will be charged a different amount depending on your use of a SIP device
or the voipraider software.
Has anyone else used voipraider? What has your experience been?
I am planning on contacting customer services but last time I contacted
one of the betamax companies I never heard back.
Kind Regards,
