I've looked at your previous postings but I'm still not sure what you mean by "point a local number at this service for free". Presumably receive incoming calls to this number. But how? Sipgate charge for call forwarding, though they will try a sequence of up to three numbers.0

I'll PM you details, don't open post it, just in case the provider closes the option. It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!(OK my English isn't great, the sciences, maths & IT are my strong points!)0

Out of order Redux..
BexTech is a valuable contributer to this thread and has helped many, including me set up VOIP.
Many of us have little knowlege of SIP/VOIP ect, so yes, his 'trick' has enabled us to have a cost effective SIP solution, which is what this forum is about??
Trying to get VOIP working is a steep learning curve for most, so perhaps he should patent it!
.I believe JustVoIP maybe one of the Betamax services that you can't point a local external number to it as this one isn't also SIP based.
It has always been possible to point a number at a JustVoip account, for example as the cheapest way to forward to a mobile, but just not register the SIP settings in other ways, such as as a provider in Voxalot (though eg VC to the JV DID is a good way round), but your later remark is interesting ...0 -
Well, it would be fraudulent to claim the royalties, either by him or me, as it was someone else that told me before I told him, though they used the number differently. By the way, off-topic, the same numbers have a fax-to-email option.

There was one of the Betamax services that didn't have SIP, so the SIP trick I used wasn't possible, I thought it was Just VoIP as they don't show details on how to set up an ATA, however it now does work with SIP, the trick works and the service works from an ATA.
With the SIP trick you can have a local number so when someone calls the local number the JustVoIP service rings out etc, if you want to then forward that to a mobile, it's not a bad rate, ideal for a business who wants a local number, but able to take calls anywhere. It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... To clarify: in the past it wasn't possible to SIP register a JV account for incoming or outgoing calls, but oddly and despite that it was always possible to forward a separate DID to the SIP address, so if the account was directly forwarded to pstn like a mobile then calls to the number would go through.

But it seems like your discovery opens up or simplifies a few things ...
I've read, but not checked, that a DialNow account can be registered for SIP calls, which if true might be useful while DN has cheap rates. I need to clarify the domain used, as I think it said you can use any Betamax.0 -
Whilst I consider myself to be computer savvy, having built a couple of pc's, I have until last week even considered voip and not until today had any inclination to play!
To cut a long story short a colleague has given me a usb "skype" phone to use with the laptop when I'm at a hotel that has an open wifi network and NO mobile signal.
I have no idea how to use it best and this thread has not cleared the fog much!
I can't see I will be a heavy user, except when at that particular hotel, and I'm sure there will be very few, if any, overseas calls.
The majoity of calls may well be to mobiles and I cant envisage many pc to pc calls.
I do want the incoming call ability with a standard 01 number though.
Help please!Fiscally responsible or just a tight git? :
