any latest updates as to which VoIP service provides FREE calls from PC to landline abroad / PC to Uk landline / Pc to PC users etc...thank you
I'd look at Internetcalls at http://www.internetcalls.com/en/index.html
Free client software.
Pay in 10 Euros and you get free calls to c20 countries including UK and much of Europe (subject to some reasonable use limits) for 120 days and even then calls are just 1c/minute in UK for example (with NO minimum charge!) which gives you a chance to start using up the 10 Euros that you'll probably have not used much of during the 120 days. Also do SMS for 5cents.
I have used it for last 8 months very happily - using the Trust Internet Phone gizmo (do a search in this thread for full details) to integrate to my DECT'd BT landline.
Incidentally that Trust USB gizmo is still on sale from 7dayshop and Morgan Computer in Tottenham Court area London had dozens in their window for c£17 when I passed there last week.0 -
or you can use a device like a PAP2 ATA and use your regular corded or cordless DECT phones without the need of a PC being on - these connect to your router.
I use sister service to internetcalls - VoIPStunt as they issued me with an incoming number over 18 months ago (though you can point a number at no cost to any of there services, if you know where to look), with my PAP2 ATA, it's set up so you wouldn't know it wasn't a regular phone, dial plans are set up, so you can dial local numbers without having to dial 0044(local code) etc, national numbers can be dialled as 01... or 02... etc, again no dialling 00441 or 00442 etc. best of all no need for the PC to be one.
As I have cable broadband for I haven't needed a phoneline, so dumped that 18 months ago, hence my requirement to have a service usable without a PC on all the time. It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!(OK my English isn't great, the sciences, maths & IT are my strong points!)0 -
As I have a monthly cap on my broadband usage, can anyone please tell me how much bandwidth Skype calls use, say, per minute or hour.
TIA

LINKSYS PAP2-NA UNLOCKED. How to access control panel?
I have just purchased one of these off eBay and I am trying to access the Admin Control Panel to set it up.
It's doesn't come preconfigured to any service.
I presume that the Admin Control Panel is accessed via my web browser. So, if anyone can help me with this and knows what to type in, I would be very grateful for the information. Many thanks.0 -
With a phone plugged into the PAP2, pick up the link (more than likely you will hear nothing).
Dial **** to access the IVR Menu, then enter 110#
If for example it reads back 192.168.1.10 then enter that in the browser, you can go straight to the advance and admin view by entering [IP address/admin/advanced] eg) http://192.168.1.10/admin/advanced or going via the links, you will need the advanced admin set-up.
Let me know if you want all the setting for a UK set-up, and if you require dial-plans, so as to be able to dial local numbers without the area-code as per a usual phone line etc. It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!(OK my English isn't great, the sciences, maths & IT are my strong points!)0 -
Many thanks for your reply Bextech. I have tried what you suggested but without result.
Dial **** to access the IVR Menu, then enter 110#
Did this but nothing happened. I can hear a slight buzzing sound to indicate that the phone is alive. Pressing the keys I can hear the musical dialling sounds. But I haven't got a dialling tone nor can I dial out using a normal BT landline.
http://192.168.1.10/admin/advanced.
Did the above and got this message. Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at 192.168.1.10
Perhaps it's something to do with my Router configurations?
I have looked in my routers LAN settings and the PAP2 is there in the DHCP client list. I haven't done anything as far as setting it up here is concerned, whatever it has done its done itself.
I haven't done anything in the INTERNET SETTINGS either to set up the PAP2 because I don't know if there is anything for me to do or not. Perhaps you could advise me?0 -
VoIP Cheap no longer issue incoming numbers, but I know a way of pointing a local number at no charge to you to VoIPcheap, or VoIPStunt, or VoIPDiscount etc (the latter two giving more free days, though calls to mobiles were higher the last time I looked). Though you may not need an incoming number if you plan to only accept incoming calls on the PSTN, and spoof the outgoing number as your BT number.
The device you are looking for is an ATA (Analogue Telephone Adapter). There are ATAs that allow both the old PSTN (BT/cable etc) line and the VoIP line to ring the phone/s attached to it.
It is possible on VoIPCheap, VoIPStunt etc to send your BT/cable phone number as the CLI so people you are calling wouldn't know you weren't calling from your landline.
The Linksys SPA 3102 allows you to accept or make calls on the same phone from either the PSTN or VoIP.
People often just go for the Linksys PAP2 ATA as this is available at lower prices (especially on eBay - though make sure it is one that was NOT previously Vonage locked), but doesn't have a port for the PSTN, but does allow you to have two VoIP lines, so you would have a phone plugged into your mater socket for your regular PSTN line, then a phone or phones connected into each line on the PAP2, could though mean 3 different phones for each number, not what you want, but for many is ideal, as it gives you 3 lines, one for the boys to use, one for the girls to use and the main one for the adults etc..
We have a PAP2, but don't have a regular landline, means I can use the phone when the other half is gossiping away on the other line. It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... Do you mean NOT previously Vontage locked?0 -
Do you mean NOT previously Vontage locked?
Yes, you are indeed correct.
I even read it through to make sure there were no errors, this is one of the problems I have when writing, I always miss the 'nt off words, and when I re-read them often miss my mistakes. It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... You should see all the editing I have to do after I post.
I blame it on the wireless keyboard as before I got one it was acceptable.0
