Saeed wrote:Have been reading the thread with interest. My free 2 months on sipgate are about to run out, I really find the incoming number function handy but with the end of the minutes I am looking for another VoIP provider that gives free UK calls AND an incoming number. Does anyone know of one or who the best one is???
Hmm, that may be a bit tricky. What I do is use Sipgate.co.uk for an incoming UK number and a Betamax VOIP provider for outgoing calls. Use a soft phone like SJPhone or Express Talk and you have both accounts on your soft phone."An eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind" - Mahatma Gandhi0 -
Thanks for your reply PIN, I forgot to add that I am using a Netgear TA612V VoIP router, but this does not let you have separate incoming and outgoing VoIP providers so am stuck with just one provider, hence need one provider who will give me a phone number ...any UK phone number and give me free outgoing UK calls.pin wrote:Hmm, that may be a bit tricky. Hi
Having some major problems with my voip adaptor set-up. I bought a Netgear TA612V, unlocked it and it is now setup to use voipcheap.
I can make calls ok to start off with but after a very short time the green (working) LED on the voip adaptor starts to flash orange (trying to register). I am then unable to make calls until i reboot the Netgear, then everything is fine again for a short period (less than half an hour) and so on....
Anybody else had similar problems with continual de-registering from voipcheap? Anybody know a solution?
PS i'm using a belkin adsl wireless router/modem0 -
kingmonkey wrote:Im really confused over voipcheap.com rates. It seems the GBP rates are more expensive than the EUR rates!?
Can anyone clear up my confusion?
I can't but I've been looking at the rates. It seems Uk landlines are no longer free. They are 1p/min according to this:
http://www.voipcheap.co.uk/en/rates.html
Thats a pain. I was looking forward to free uk calls on VOIP! Someone tell me I got it wrong please0 -

You do have it wrong - you are confusing the .com and .co.uk VoipCheap sites. You want the .com site for free UK calls. On .co.uk they are no longer free. Same company - 2 sites - 2 sets of call charges?0 -
Never would have thought it. Thanks for that.0

Having read a load of stuff about voip over the last few nights, now I have decided to go for it. My question is which SIP ATA device is the best to go for? I've been pondering the Linksys PAP2 or one of the Sipaura units. I've seen some unlocked uk PAP2's about. There are also some being sold from Hong Kong for £27 all in, this seems a good deal. Do any of these let you programme it with more than one SIP account? Ideally I'd like to store a load of different VOip provider accounts and easily switch between them. Is this at all possible with any unit?, thanks for any help.0

I just setup my PAP2 the other day. This is my configuration:
- Incoming calls with a free Sipgate account
- Outgoing calls with voipdiscount.com
With this unit its not possible to have different incoming and outgoing providers on the one line.
what you need to do is setup a free voxalot account and register your providers there (up to 10).
This can be a bit daunting at first but once you read thru the tutorials it should become clear.
Basically My PAP2 is setup to use Voxalot as my provider. Voxalot will route incoming calls from my sipgate account to my adapter and will route outgoing calls from my adapter to my voipdiscount account.
You setup dial plans, which are basically rules to say for example: If I dial a number starting with 01 use providerX or if I dial a number staring with 02 use providerY.
I would also recommend reading the article on this site: http://www.leafcom.co.uk/
The whole thing works really well.
I think there is other ways to do this with other adapters but at least this is an option for you.0 -

I have this type of setup working fine with Sipgate and VoipCheap, but unfortunately Sipgate don't allow forwarding of any kind - and I need to divert to my mobile quite often.
If I could get my OrbTalk account (which also has a Free local number) registered with Voxalot, then no only would I be able to divert when I wanted, but the diverted calls would be cheaper than either Sipgate or VoipTalk.
I can't get OrbTalk to register at Voxalot - has anyone been able to do this, or if not, has anyone got the PAP2 to divert calls itself, back to voxalot?
Still looking for way of using Orbtalk for incomming calls on the free local number (with cheapish forwarding to mobiles) and Voipcheap for outgoing calls - all on 1 line as the other is already tied up.
(I also have Voiptalk, Voxalot and VoipCheap working on line 2, which does offer call diversion to mobiles, but at about 15p/min - as opposed to Orbtalk at 10/min weekdays and 5p/min at weekends).
Thanks in advance
