I decided to experiment with Voxalot the other day and managed to register a sipgate account. You have to be patient - it tends to take a bit of time for the SIP registration to go through (mine took about 6 hours).
I now have FreeCall.com & VoipCheap.com set up via Voxalot for outgoing calls from my PAP2 ATA, and routed my free local number from VoipTalk.Org to voxalot, so these callers ring in to my ATA too. Have done the same on the second PAP2 line using FreeCall/VoipCheap again to a new (but identical) voxalot account, and using a different free local number routed from OrbTalk. When I've added some credit to OrbTalk, I'll be able to divert incoming calls to my mobile when I'm out - I tested it with VoipTalk using the free £2 credit.
I'll have a play with ENUM and SipBroker at a later date.

My apologies if this is not the right thread for me to put the post. I have a BT line and i am a bit too fed up of paying BT for landline calls and calls to mobile fone where as my NTL broadband is just sitting doing nothing. so i have heard and read that its possible to make FREE calls to Uk mobile and landlines and even 0845,0870/1 number....can please anyone tell me how do i go about doing this ? what gadgets will i need ? i do have a mic and speakers (though may not help much). i mean i am paying NTL some 14 odds for broadband (unlimited) which i use for 30-35 hours a week.
pls advice guys...cheers to all...0 -
hi all, freecall.com has now closed its offer of giving us free calls, does anyone know of an alternative, or who is the best voip company to join now, in terms of the number of freedays given?
any advice much appreciated, cheers.0 -

I think that the consensus of opinion seems to be to go with VoipCheap.com (not .co.uk) as they appear to have the cheapest rates to mobiles, are still free to UK numbers and now offer 120 days expiry on their credit. Top up the minimum 10 euros + VAT, which is about 8 quid, or 2 quid a month, for 300 free minutes a week. Use up the credit on 0870/0845 numbers when you can't find an alternative, or for mobiles.
I tried Freecall.com about a month ago, and without adding credit it only gave me about 30 minutes of free calls anyway!
The service is not 100% with any of these VoIP providers IMHO, but I've got a pretty reliable set-up now with a Linksys PAP2 ATA via my Metronet 1Mb broadband connection.

hi thanks, for the above response, i'm already with voipcheap.co.uk, but they have expensive rate's now, so looks like i'll be moving to the .com version.0

If you look here http://www.voipcheap.com/en/free.html you will see that UK landline calls are still free - as are many other countries (I call New Zealand for free) - just add 10 Euro credit (abour 8 quid) and get free calls to all of the destinatons listed for 90/120 days.
Calls to UK mobiles via voipcheap.com are about 6p a minute.
VoipBuster do not offer free calls to UK landlines.

Hi,
I just got the Netgear TA612V bundled with Sipgate service and had problems having it configured. Basically, there is no dial tone once everything was done and the LED on phone port didn't turn on, however I can surf the internet fine through it. Already tried what people in Grabbit kindly suggested to no avail. Could anyone help?
My setup is in university LAN with no modem (one cable end plugged direct into the wall socket) and never had a problem using voip services with softphone like X-Lite.
Settings through 192.168.61.1 are:
LAN Port
MAC Address 00:0F:B5:**:**:**
Line 1
Display Name UNAVAILABLE
Telephone Number phonenumber
Line 1 Status
Hook State: ON
Registration State: Idle
Message Waiting: NO
Also, I look forward to having this device set to use with voipdiscount/buster but could not see any field on the http where I can have these configured (STUN, username, etc.). Does anyone know if I can do this please? Do I need to install a softphone for this purpose?
Thank you very much.0
