patwa wrote:You can also get your own phone number as well. The companies mentioned above offer you, free, as part of the service, a local telephone number, similar in format to your home phone number (although not always with the same dialling code).
But they no longer offer this facility.;)0 -

Orange has recently changed my broadband package and increased the speed to 5MB. They sent me a 'Livebox' and said within 5 days they would email me a phone number and I would be able to use the livebox to connect to their phone service with free off peak and weekend etc. I have had the box for over 3 weeks now, the internet works fine, but the phone part never works. There is no number. I have spent a fortune calling the orange CS, the technical section passed me to the account, back to technical. I did whatever the instruction said, I am just not getting anywhere.
Does anyone else have same kind of problem with Orange's Wireless and Talk?0 -
star1 wrote:Yes - Definatly check out the thread that Paul H has mentioned.
I'm using a Linksys PAP2 (it's capapable of having two lines), and receive calls for FREE via an 0207 number and make calls to 01/02 number for FREE on the other line using Sipdiscount.
- It cost me :-
- £20 for the PAP2 (plugs into my wireless cable router)
- Nothing for the Sipgate incomming number (and nothing per month)
- A 5 euro credit on the Sipdiscount line to make free 01/02 numbers, and other selected worldwide landlines
- Two phones to plug into the PAP2
* It should be noted VoIP is not as reliable as traditional lines and will drop if you loose power or your BB connection, so make sure you have alternative methods of contact ! (eg. mobile)
Any questions - look on the other thread or ask?
PS - The only catch with the above solution is it's not really suited to a PC novice, you will need to know all about setting up the PAP2 and unlocking it (if you buy a vonage branded unit)
PPS - If you're a PC novice and want to buy somthing "out of the box" look at the https://www.freetalk.co.uk option (mentioned earlier), it's currently the cheepest (especially if you go for the annual option)- to connect to your RJ45 equiped router.
^ Excellent post - Sipgate and Sipdiscount combined seems to be the cheapest deal. :money: :T
Can I setup my router/phone so that I could simply use Sipgate for incoming and Sipdiscount? Could I set this up so this works with normal house phones? Thanks in advance.0 -
I am about to set up Sipgate and Sipdiscount or Voipcheap on a PAP2 ATA, and was hoping to cancel my second BT line if I can get it up and running OK.
One thing that I need (more than free calls) is the ability to have the VOIP number (local code from sipgate) forwarded to my mobile (or another number) when I'm not at home.
If this can be done, please can anyone explain how? I don't mind if it means that the incomming call on line 1 (sipgate) is transferred to line 2 (say, voipcheap) and the PAP2 calls back out to the mobile. I accept that there will be charges to call out / divert to the mobile.
Apologies if this has already been explained on MSE already, but I've spent hours searching the site and can't find anything - and google hasn't been much help either.
Thanks

Its look like sipgate doesn't support call forwarding on their system. I guess there are two ways around this.. record a personal voicemail to tell callers to call your mobile number, or.... get a special phone that supports call forwarding.0 -

I've emailed SipGate to query this and also emailed FreeCall.com for advice, but at present I appear unable to get freecall (or voipcheap, sipdiscount, etc. etc.) to work on my PAP2. SipGate is OK, but I've only managed one call on FreeCall and that was by changing the settings to those used by SipDiscount! Now it just stays offline?? Any ideas - anyone with PAP2 settings for FreeCall, VoipCheap, SipDiscount etc as those on their sites are woefully inadequate.

I've noticed the server name they give for SIP settings on freecall.com does not work.
Mine works fine with proxy set to 80.239.235.200:5060
and STUN server set to stun.voiparound.com
and User ID and Password filled in.0
