Have a neighbour coming in for drinkies later.. no dry January here..

Give it a few months cbc and you'll be able to pick up a copy on amazon for 1p + p&p..... what was the book called? I love money books, I have 2 and reread them frequently...
I'm not sure this would be what you're looking for, Puzz. I get the impression that's it's more an anecdotal account of the trials and successes of her year buying 'nothing' and quite a lot about her cycling everywhere.
Unless you too wait until it's only 1p on Amazon;). I've just had another quick peek on there, the new price direct from Amazon has already dropped £2.60 since yesterday(launch day) and there are some new ones on there from private sellers for around £5.50 already:rotfl:
Sorry, forgot to give you the details:o

Hi cbc,
Not sure about the cycling bit.. not really my choice of transport.. but otherwise sounds like a book I would like..
My two are -
In the Red - Alexis Hall
How I lived on a pound a day - Kath kelly...
HAve read them both a number of times and I'm sure they are cheap as chips on amazon...

Is the Kath Kelly book the one about the woman who lives in Bristol and did a lot of hitch-hiking? If so, I read that one a while ago.
Although I do enjoy these kind of books I can't transfer the ideas to my own life as most of the writers are based in big cities (with a thriving big student presence) where there's so much to do and see that's free, even if it's only talks and lectures etc. Often they get free food (well, nibbles anyway) at these places which cuts their food bill (and their heating at home as they're out a lot;)). Living way 'out in the sticks' (nearest small convenience shop/post office is just under 5 miles away down narrow country roads and libraries and other shops are about 3 miles further away and that's only a very small market town with small independent shops (expensive!) and 2 small supermarkets. No public transport . No scope for free events anywhere local.
I sound a real moaner today (I'm normally not, honest;)) but I often feel I'm missing out especially on moneymaking/saving opportunities that people in cities and big towns have access to. At least there's less temptation to spend on unnecessary 'whim' things here though.
Admitted, fresh air is free so going for walks is a good free time-filler:rotfl: but 'culture', entertainment and free nibbles are definitely out.0 -
Hi cbc,
Yep that's the one.. you do live very rural don't you... I couldn't do it myself I have always lived near towns and we are only a 20 minute train to London.. when they are not on strike of course..
Maybe one day, one of us dmp'ers will write a book and then we can all try to guess who it is...!

I was brought up in the Peak District but Sheffield was reasonably accessible to us. Then I was at University in Manchester and my first job was in Birmingham for 3 years so I've had a bit of experience of city life.0 -
Happy Sunday....
Quick update here...
OH has made my car dirty...:( and I was going to get him to clean her inside today but its pouring with rain.....boo..
Spendy day yesterday, my bank balance is rapidly depleting... necessary though as books for dd's next modules...
No plans for today.. need to clean the bathroom, OH still resident on the sofa.. and dd still zzzzz... Will pop to a shop shortly and then prep my pork/veg for slow roasted pork in cider for tea... no idea what it will be like as I don't cook pork very often but ended up with 2 loin joints in the freezer...
Had toyed with going to town but don't really need anything today so will leave for next weekend..
Still holding onto my gift cards, £160 to spend on them and I usually manage to drag them out until my summer birthday when I get some more...!
Mid way through January already...

Pork in cider sounds yummy:T. We have pork quite a lot. Well, not as often as we used to as joints are still expensive even when on offer:(. Quite cost effective in a way though as the left overs can always be made into another tasty meal or two. My favourite is roast lamb but it's always so expensive whatever time of year it is so it's become a very rare treat in this house. Can't say I'm mad keen on beef so hardly ever buy that. Thank goodness for chicken, several meals for me, OH and the cat out of a good sized chicken:j0

Morning... well technically afternoon...:D
That week flew by...
The pork was a success..! lovely crackling, OH loved it... I have another joint so will do it again another day...
This week... dd still at home, usually resident in bed or on the sofa.. OH also at home apart from when proper working as his van is still being fixed.... I have lent him my car a few times and played taxi.. I have now cleaned it inside so he can only use it if he wears clean footwear...! Me I have been working as per.....
I was due to go to my oldest friends birthday 'cocktails and canape' night tonight... this involves me buying a new top as I have nothing suitable so was planning on hitting town this afternoon... BUT.. my bff has blown me out as she is ill and that means I lose my lifts... a taxi will be £15 each way.. .. and the cost of a new top... plus no playmate at the party.. so I have very guiltily cancelled.. I haven't lied and said it how it is... I could have driven but a night of orange juice isn't my thing...! So an unplanned evening at home, OH is out so I expect dd and I will catch up on some of our *rap tv... will need to sort something for my tea as I hadn't planned anything.. will pop to little town this afternoon and hope to be inspired...!!
Need to get to bank to pay in some cash as bank account low.... but payday in 6 days..:T
Replies from both N*west and Lowe*ls this week, both disagreeing with my complaints... umm.. that's not playing nice...
So letter already sent signed for back to N*west correcting some of the errors in their letter.. they actually lied.. and said the account I was referring to wasn't reported to CRA's.. umm well how did I know it wasn't being updated then.. also enclosed the previous letter from the exact same person from when I last complained and they put it right... will forward on to the ombudsman if they can't get there ar*e into gear.. I am not asking for anything except correct reporting to the credit agencies.. fools..
The other lot also disagree that they need to place default instead of markers as they bought it as a non defaulted debt and basically between the lines are saying I have to stop paying to get it defaulted.. can be done..... but I am going to dig though my stuff for the original creditor first see if they issued a default notice.. may just refer straight to FOS rather than go back to them as the originator creditor for this one was my main pain in the bottom, next to BC of course...! If I don't get a D I will be saving to do a P & F as soon as possible as this is the only one not defaulted...
That's about it folks.. best get on with mucking out the house..

Happy Hump Day...
Well it is for me as I have a cheeky half day this afternoon...
Spendy weekend in the end as I took dd out for lunch... now down to pennies in the bank, about £3 in my purse and suppose to be going to the cinema this afternoon... with my meerkat movie code of course...:money: I will have to either transfer some money from one of my many saving pots... or pay myself early from OH..Will go with the latter as all will be fine come Friday when its PAYDAY at last...:T
I did a quick 1/2 hours overtime on Saturday so that's a few more pennies for next month.... this month I have 3 creditors to pay on the new reduced dmp payments and the other 6 will still get £5 each.. so should be £480 up, also no c.tax or water so another £200.... Will then be paying into saving pots £200 rent for dd, pay lovely father £100 for car loan and the rest will be split into the pots...
Have started communication with a local driving school for dd.. £45 for a 2 hour lesson.. Think our summer holiday for 2017 isn't going to happen, but would rather she got her licence.. of course then the fun starts with car insurance...
No word back from N*twest following my response to there reply to my complaint.. and I must get on with complaining to the FOS about the other one...
Rude start to the day with loud cat fight downstairs.. even though OH was downstairs at the time he didn't see what happened other than the horrible black cat who I don't know who owns was rushing off down our garden and my 2 and the neighbours tabby who visits often were all puffed up and looking horrified.. think the horrible one was possibly chasing the tabby and they both came in, scaring my babies... I have now shut the cat flap as my boy cat wouldn't leave the kitchen work top was just staring at the door.. they are both now curled up asleep on the sofa, so that's where they can stay today...!
Right best get on with some more work....
