Which posts in particular are 'hilarious' to you?
  • But they are waiting for the badge holder, while they do it dosn't matter a jot whether they read, practice underwater melodian playing, learn the bagpipes, smoke, eat, or drink they are still waiting.

    :rotfl: Very true though...

Think nearly every thread I've posted in lately, if I've said black, he/she has said white. Never mind, it would be a boring old existence if we were all the same eh?:rotfl:

And yes I loved that post from douglas too, especially the underwater melodian playing and the bagpipes :D

  • There are so many selfish people about now I don't know wether its something to do with how children are being raised as the majority of them have no manners. Could be down to what kids grow up watching on the TV, computer games. I remember once when I was about 18 and just Started to get back pain and an old lady got on the bus and said to me move! As I was in a seat for priority for the elderly. I refused her for a few reasons one being the way she asked. She could have said excuse me can I sit there as they are for the elderly I would have gladly moved. But as there were still some other seats on the bus I just told her to sit somewere else as I was sitting there as my back was hurting.

Is it clear that you have a disability or is it one that could be unnoticed? Mine often is especially when I'm having a good day. I sometimes feel guilty when I park in a disabled bay as I am disabled but not severely. For example I cannot get out of my car in a normal parking space there just isn't enough space unless I park far away from the shops were there is a space next to me. So I do need the extra space for getting out, but when I see someone getting into a wheelchair I think to myself (when I have just parked in the last space) what if someone else in a wheelchair comes and can't get a space because I'm there, they should have more priority than me.

I think that what I've just said but then sometimes I see people get out of their car and literally run into the shop, or people using disabled spaces to goto the cash machine which really annoys me. From what I have seen the worst people for doing this are people under the age of say 30, so I don't know wether this is down to the way people are being raised with no manners and a lack of respect. Also white van men, and taxi drivers are also bad for parking in these spaces to use the cash machines. Maybe they could enforce something were it is an instant fine and it is monitored by camera and you could never get away with it.

    Best to ignore ...

Anyone who thinks that nanny is sanctimonous is not worth wasting another second of my time on.

I first became disabled in my late teens. I had plenty of the "oh you are too young to be disabled comments".

On the flip side though i have had over exuberance. I remember one day sitting outside my then workplace having a fag on the street in my manual wheelchair ....the next minute some random stranger starts pushing me across the road ! :rotfl::rotfl:

Thought cause i'd been sat there a couple of minutes i was struggling to cross ! Flipping heck i bet Usain Bolt would have had nowt on this lad zooming me across the road.

To be fair though he did return me to my start point when I explained I wasn't trying to cross !!!!:rotfl:

In the main when I was reliant on buses the main issue was the drivers just never bothered to stop for me or were not physically capable of having me on board.

I went to Naidex disability show at the NEC yesterday. Bus from the car park to entrance -ramp broken so I couldn't get on.

Return journey - they had a coach on ... Totally inaccesible to me.
I mean its a show for disabled people what planet were the nec on?

Probably the same planet as the National Autistic Socirty a few years ago. They organise the Autism Show. I went and I have hyperacusis, which is common amongst those of us with ASD. With no warning whatsoever (I can't read the programme - the font is too small) there was some very loud music playing.

  • On the topic of using public transport. Has anyone any experience of not being able to board a bus because buggies are in the wc section? I'm yet to use public transport and to be honest the thought of it fills me with dread.
My horror scenario being, I wait for a bus, board bus , pay fare, only to see the wc sections are taken up by buggies. Then what happens? Should the buggies be folded up and child put on parents knee? Should I alight the bus, taking my ticket/refund with me and wait for the next bus?
How does it work ? Thankyou. I am a relatively new wheely, July 2013, after going down the formal complaint procedure with my local wheelchair services I am now the proud passenger of an invacare xlt and want to get the most out of it, and my life. Thankyou.
RIP Floyd - 19/04/09. I know i'll see you again my best friend forever.
