  • Exactly right! The neutraliser does as it says in that is neutralises the effect of the peel. I just rinse after that to freshen up the rest and gently pat dry.

;) thanks so much.....see i knew it was a silly question :rotfl:

I've been lurking on this thread for a while. I've used alpha h liquid gold in the past but wasnt to impressed.

I quite fancy either the mandelic or the glycolic. I'm thinking the mandelic as a first time user though?

I don't know anything about liquid gold so don't know what it's effects are. Glycolic and mandelic are used for slightly different skin issues(Melly has mentioned their various uses on this thread somewhere)

Obviously both come in different strengths. I use both manadelic and glycolic and for me personally I find the mandelic doesn't irritate when it is on (cover face, neck etc) whereas the glycolic I tend to do in sections because it irritates more and I find myself 'scratching' at it with the applicator brush(all is fine though once neutralised)
  • Thanks to Mellymoo and all who contributed to this thread, it's been an interesting read .

Last week i visited the sk:n clinic for an assessment and was given a glyco peel for my problem skin.

Wanted to have it done professionally before doing it myself. To be honest i found more info on this thread than i was given by the nurse at the clinic before and after the treatment. They seem more interested in promoting their 'deals' than giving adequate advice and info.

After checking out the links on this thread, i've taken the plunge and just ordered the 10% mandelic malic acid peel on forever young on ebay.

Cant wait to get started :T. The glyco made my skin feel lovely and soft but i think mandelic would be best suited to my skin.

Thanks again for this fab thread :D

I just received my mandelic/salicylic the other day (15%) and oh my; it took my breath away!! Really stung! Was bearable though so will go again!

I stupidly threw the instructions away though so cannot remember how often to do this and whether I can use the glycolic in between?

    Thanks for any tips again!!xx

Annomoose. Use it once a week. A minute longer each time. No glycolic in between

Always go slowly with the acids IMO :)

Your skin might flake in a couple of days. Don't pick at the flakes !

And yep it stings :o but works :T

Has anyone here had a professional peel done before doing it at home?
I had a mild peel a few weeks ago which had no downtime and just gave a really good cleanse, slight perk up I suppose.
I'm having a medium peel done this week which apparently will involve downtime.
I'm really wondering how the home peel compares to a professional job as it's pricey and less convenient for a professional job but is it better?

Sorry I haven't had it done professionally so can't compare however just to give you an idea of the difference it's made to me I shall tell you the benefits I have seen. I am not sure if anyone else on here has either.

I have PCOS and have oily, acne riddled skin (and I am nearly 40)! Prior to getting the boots pack (glycolic 10%) for christmas, I used to use antibiotic acne cream daily with some (not perfect though) success. I still felt like my skin was yucky like dirty, blocked etc.
    Never felt fresh.

After using the glycolic for a few weeks with no peeling or down time, I haven't usedy acne stuff for over a month now. My skin feels fabulous. (Although still large pores on my nose). If I get spots, they could be described as pimples (not great big boils) and disappear as soon as they came! In addition to all this, I hardly have to use any foundation whereas before I had to cake it on.

I got the mandelic/salicylic as. I have read it can combat the open pores on my nose bu have only used it the one time so still waiting to see how that goes!!

Thanks Anoneemoose, I don't really have a spot problem although tiny bit of scarring from teen years of pulverising anything that took up residency:o My main issue is sun damage and smoking, feathery skin and lines. My skin is more to dry than oily so hope this doesn't make it worse.
I worry about allergic reactions so thought a professional job might be advisable to start with but mild peel was probably too mild.
