The Great 'shrinking food and other items' Hunt

I too have noticed pack sizes shrinking and also things like shampoo being reformulated, presumably to make it cheaper to produce? I noticed that Tesco changed their frozen salmon fillets to far inferior flatter salmon pieces which didn't taste very nice so I stopped buying them and switched to Iceland (4 for £6). Iceland are now starting to roll out online delivery - minimum order is £25 and delivery is FREE. As it is available in my area I thought I'd try it and got my first order this week. I worked out that on the branded like-for-like items alone, I saved a massive £13.43 compared to shopping online with Tesco! :j
What with shrinking weights, buying bigger not always being cheaper, and offers not always being what they seem, you really do need to have your wits about you when food shopping!0 -

Interested to look there, wherever it is, as I don't spend on poor value products either.

All Cadbury Chocolate block have shrunk in size. The smaller sizes have now shrunk from 150g to 120g
I emailed Cadbury's about this issue some 12 months ago after I twigged on to their procedures. My local Co-Op were selling 400g bars of Dairy Milk for £2 (usually £3.59) using price points that were printed on plain paper by the store, saying that it was an offer that was ongoing 'whilst stocks last'.
It then transpired that they were getting rid of all the 400g bars at £2 because they had new stock of CDM bars that were only 360g and still priced at £3.59!
Cadbury's told me that the reduction in product size was 'essential' to maintain their competitive price point of £3.59 in the market place. Obviously, the price for the same 360g bar is now £3.99 so you now get 10% less product for 10% more money!
I'll see if I can dig their email out and post it.Justice For The 960 -

Bananas prepack £1. Same pack weighed loose cost under 50p. Loose they show the kilogram cost so it looks expensive.0

Cadburys Dairy Milk are currently advertising a new shape bar. New shape, smaller size though. Reduced from 49 grams to 45.
Yeah, I wont buy it and because they shut the factory here and most of the chocolate is now produced in Poland.
They must think we are all mugs and will buy anything.0 -

They don't think we are all mugs, but they do know that most of are complete mugs and will buy anything.
Obviously not the people in here, but we are a very small minority compared to the people who don't come in here.0
