  • As I said in the old shrinking food thread, 95% of the time when a product changes the design of the packaging, the size does as well.

Celebrations tubs now down to 750g

Last year they were 855 grams. The old size has flagged up in my Tesco favourites as unavailable.
  • Thornton mini caramel shortcakes are really yummy, but they used to be 12 in a pack, then they went down to 11 for a month or two and now they are packs of 10! The packaging has stayed the same size, they've just spread them out a bit in the tray. The price has gone up from £1.20ish to nearly £2 now as well! Shame they are so nice otherwise I'd stop buying them as a treat!

  • Farm Foods worth a look .... (If there is a branch near you) ... 1kg block of mature cheddar £5 .... 2 x 2ltr milk £1.60 many tins, jars & packets and frozen food cheaper than supermarkets.
  • Morrisons have reduced their Meadow Fresh (own label) bottle size of semi-skimmed milk from 4 pints to 2 litres. An effective price increase of about 13%. Price unchanged at 99p.

Lidl, Iceland and ASDA still sell 4 pints for 99p
  • Not food I know but still a staple item on shopping lists.
Nikki Toilet rolls from Farm foods were 2 packs of 9 rolls for £4 or £5 (I think) - this used to be a bargain - but the last time I bought them I noticed the tube was much bigger so the amount of actual sheets has gone down - I can provide the actual number of sheets but I know the rolls didn't last anywhere near as long.
I think I am going to need to take a calculator with me unless the supermarkets start putting price per 100 sheets on the labelling as it seems each manufacturer has a different amount of sheets per roll so even working out price per roll doesn't help
  • Asda's Toad in the Hole used to be £1 a pack and have eight sausages in it.

It's still £1 a pack, but now there are only *six* sausages...
if i had known then what i know now
  • John West Tuna is now 160 grms it used to be 185grms and the price has gone up to

Many of us put our money whe our mouths are and don't spend on luxuries we consider to be poor value. Lurk on the OS board to identify who's who...

I looked through the forums but couldn't find anything to match "OS" - did you mean Over 50s?

Interested to look there, wherever it is, as I don't spend on poor value products either.

227g isn't such a strange figure. It's half a pound (or 8oz) in the imperial measures which most things used to be sold in before we adopted grams as an alternative which was an easy way to increase prices by trimming pounds down from 454g to a "nice round" 400g

Yes, of course - didn't have my brain in gear! I'm used to 454 but failed to see that 227 is half! Mind you, I was an imperial child!:)
