You're a bit out of date. They've moved considerably upmarket, with nice, bright, large new stores in very good locations. Ours opened right next door to Tesco and took away a large part of its trade within a year.

    East Anglian Daily Times:

The retailer is increasingly opening in affluent locations such as Chancellor George Osborne’s constituency in Knutsford, Cheshire, with its 500th UK store due to open in Bury St Edmunds next month.

Obviously we are way behind in Scotland! You need extra insurance on your car to park in the car parks of Aldi here

And ... by the way, I actually quite like Lidl and Aldi but I use Tesco for the Clubcard points loyalty which has always helped me with items and treats that I would not normally be able to afford.

I do use Tesco but nowhere like as much as I used to.

I also use Tesco Direct but have to say I think that has gone downhill
considerably. Some items being sold by Tesco and the same things being sold by other retailers at vastly differing prices makes no sense to me. Trying to be like Amazon I suppose, but it does not work for me.

I preferred it the way it was before when everything was supplied by Tesco themselves.

Afraid not - that was why I started the thread, to point out what Tesco are now doing.

Basically, Tesco have cheated you out of the £113 you'd saved - the customer service people will tell you (and I entirely believe them) that your vouchers no longer appear on the system. Their HO systems will certainly show them, though, and if you make a big enough fuss there's just a chance you might get them back.

Some people in this forum will tell you that it's all your fault, and that Tesco are being perfectly reasonable in clawing back what you earned. But those people are almost certainly Tesco employees or plants. No sane person would back Tesco's greed over this issue.

Pay them back at their own game - ditch the tiny 1% Clubcard savings and save 30% by shopping at Aldi or Lidl.
  • I had a whole bunch of vouchers recently expired. When I rang back in march, Tesco re-issued them with no hesitation. When I rang this time a few days ago, they said they can no longer re-issue expired vouchers. Emailed in to complain and same response.

I had over £60 worth of vouchers gone up in smoke. They could have paid for some fun times for my kids. To me this is just sick. Sainsbury's nectar points don't have expiry dates on them.

People save these vouchers up so they can spend them on something nice.

I am so incensed by this, I have vowed never to shop or fuel at Tesco ever again. Nor will I buy shares in Tesco. Tesco have made this personal. Where I live I am surrounded by 3 big Tesco stores. Thankfully, there are some new smaller independent grocery stores opened up nearby. I never really paid attention to prices, but have realised there was quite a difference in price. Bog roll being one in particular, can get nicky 9 roll 3-ply for £2! Tesco can't even come close. It seems the smaller independents are beating the cr*p out of Tesco :)

Tesco can keep their poxy clubcard points, I can make real savings by shopping elsewhere. For me the equation is simple: Tesco = Evil.

On the contrary - there's everything to see. Notably the way that the mean-spirited Tesco machine now chooses to treat its customers. And loyal ones at that.

And every time they do it they lose another customer - no wonder their results continue to be so poor, and no wonder so many former Tesco customers are switching to other supermarkets. :)
  • Thanks for this thread confirming that Tesco's have tightened up their handling of expired CC vouchers.

As swift1 above points out it is a little frustrating that Nectar points don't expire, but CC vouchers, like hotel and airline loyalty points, do. Personally, I would prefer the vouchers to be valid for at least two years following the last in-store use of the Clubcard. Because as many indicate the amounts people receive are small and so we do tend to accumulate them into a reasonable quantity, but I expect that is also part of the reason why some of the exchange offers are quite generous.

Just confirm something on another thread. Vouchers don't actually disappear from the system immediately they expire. So for example today I was able to use vouchers that expired on "30-Nov-2013" but not ones that had expired previously. However, these expired vouchers are not listed by the CC checkout application and their codes have to be entered manually.

Buying shares in Tesco would be a bad idea. This supermarket is going down.
