Every time I see an update on this thread I come back hoping to read some good news.

I'm so sorry to hear of your dads diagnosis, life can be heartbreakingly cruel at times, wishing you and your dad all the strength in the world x

We did try that but unable to establish if brother has any money or if his assets are set against outstanding debts. Dad would win case but it seems these companies will only take on cases where they are guarenteed to get themselves a quick pay off at end of it :0(

Some solicitors take on work Pro Bono i.e. for free. I would suggest make an inquiry via CAB.
Perhaps you / your father has access to free legal advice via your house insurance?
Even if you do not recover the money, It may give you / your father some closure to have this despicable son exposed as a thief?

I think Nana has exercised every possible avenue to try and see this swine of a brother prosecuted from what he has done, but to no avail.

I recall that one poster, some pages back, suggested the possibility of some kind of "crowdfunding" or donations system towards a legal fund for Nana and her dad. Worth pursuing, in my opinion. I know I'd be happy to to put something in the pot.

    Hung up my suit!
A friend of mine in his 80s who lives abroad was swindled out of 300K from his account by his stepson who he trusted enough to put in charge of his finances.

He took his stepson to court and got 6 months in clink, but never got any of his money back and struggles to get by.

It's very difficult knowing who to trust but I help him whenever he asks as it's difficult for him to handle his matters out of the country. One day he offered to give me his credit card and pin number. I refused and told him never ever to trust anybody that much !! Old people are so trusting........Scary... :(

I can only admire your dignity through all of this, you are a credit to your Father.

    Best wishes.

Absolutely agree with Apples2, you are a far better person than I am Nanan.

I wish you and your lovely father all the best, whatever happens.
  • Nana - I have read the entire post and have to say that I am shocked and saddened to hear about it.

I don't quite understand how solicitors won't proceed given that your brother still has his house so he must have assets...his house. Please forgive my ignorance on the subject but it is very, very sad.

I could completely see my SIL to be doing this to her own parents, right now she is double paying her mortgage while bleeting on to them about how poor they are which is absolute rubbish.

Luckily my fiance (her brother) has recently seen some of her behaviour and can no longer give her the benefit of the doubt as he has done for years. Anyway, enough of that.

I am really sad about what has happened and I really admire you for everything you have done. I am sending you a big hug with this message <<>> I am sorry that I have nothing to add other than I am thinking of you and your Dad.

    xxxxxxxx

My darling dad has now sadly died of agressive pancreatic cancer after just 6 short weeks of his symptoms presenting. As followers of this thread know he was a good strong intelligent & honest family man of eighty-six who was the victim of elderly financial abuse at the hands of his 60 year old son 17 months ago. He is now at peace after months of mental torment, anguish and dispair caused by his own son taking his entire life savings & weekly pensions totalling approx £70,000 leaving him penniless & in debt for the first time in his whole life, then his son & his sons family abandoned him. It is fair to say that with no closure this man died with a broken heart & a dying wish that all should know as a warning of easily misplaced trust. Love you with all my heart dad xxxx

PS: As yet no insurance policies can be found amongst dads effects. Can anyone advise how to find out about claimed or unclaimed life insurance policies?
