Nananinanoonoo. Thank you for updating us. Hugs to you both.

Just wanted to say that, although there is no real excuse for the nephews and nieces not getting in touch, they are likely to have been fed all sorts of lies and probably cannot bring themselves to believe that any of this is true. Or it could even be sheer embarrassment!

I totally agree Brenny it could be one or all of those reasons but they know their grandad is a very honest and shrewd man who is 85 and in utter distress, they also know that whatever excuse my brother may have given for his actions it is obvious their father has been living way beyond his means. They are adults and any moral and intelligent person would have to override a certain amount of loyalty to someone who has caused such heartbreak especially when the victim is such an elderly vunerable loved one.

In other words whilst I can accept my two nephews and my neice may be supporting their father no matter what but they should also be showing some concern for their grandfathers welfare, they cannot ignore the fact that is was his money that ultimately provided a lifestyle for them. Even a card or note letting him know they are in difficult situation but are thinking of him would be something - it is hard to explain the discarded and worthless way dad feels but a decent human being would not have to see his broken spirit to comprehend what all this has done to him...the money is almost irrelevant :0(

Have you tried sending a link to this thread to them? May put them in the picture without any of the strong feelings.

Can't see that helping. They would be likely to see it in a completely negative light (sister lying on a public forum about what she claims her brother has done).

Please note that I am not criticising Nana... at all nor doubting her report of what has happened - just pointing out how it can be interpreted by someone who is determined to believe the best of their father.

If it were me I would write them each a letter explaining the affect that their attitude is having on their grandfather - I would probably avoid mentioning their father or his actions.
loose does not rhyme with choose but lose does and is the word you meant to write.

  • Unless you involve the police and then if found guilty the court may require him to pay the monies back either in full or by installments (they may not) maybe via AE order but if your brother will not agree to a contract to pay it back you can't do very much, maybe get a CCJ against him and then maybe bailiff action or high court writ and then high court sheriff but that all costs money and time I am afraid.
