I'm with talktalk and never had a problem with them.

  • This took 5 weeks to get done despite me telling TT exactly what the problem was and what needed to be done to rectify it, I must have spent a total of 3 or 4 hours on the phone speaking to their technical "helpdesk".

You could have posted this issue on the TT forums and got it sorted a lot faster. All mainstream ISPs operate Dynamic Line Management (DLM) which is a system which monitors the users connection and automatically increases/decreases their speeds depending on the stability of the connection. However unlike BT and Sky, TT can switch off DLM on a connection upon request - again best done via their forums.

You will not get cheaper than TT.
Essentials package for new customers is £3-75 a month for phone and BB.
Line rental upfront works out at £9-50 a month totaling £13-25 altogether.

South African call centres are total rubbish but TT forums excellent for sorting issues.
Really makes you wonder why they employ overseas "advisors" to make a complete @rse of things and then the UK forum guys have to clear up the mess.

I've never used the forums so wasn't aware of this.
I was told by the BT Openreach engineer who fixed the original wiring fault that TT would be able to reset my internet speed without visiting my property but when I mentioned this to the person on the telephone helpdesk, she was totally baffled and insisted that an engineer needed to call.
This was probably because what I was asking wasn't on their pre-prepared sheet of questions and answers.
  • What happens when more and more people get to know the TT forums 'loophole' and the forums are swamped with people asking for help? It's not a great system when you have to rely on posting your problems on a company forum in order to get some semblance of customer service TBPF.

    Couldn`t agree more.

They have a set script and anything that`s not on it, they put you on hold and then probably call someone in the UK for the answer.
A lot of Brit companies tried the overseas route, found it didn`t work and brought the call centres back here.

A favourite trick of these companies is to have their sales teams in the UK and the rest overseas.
Aviva car insurance is a good example, sales in UK and claims in India.
Just what you need when you need help.
I switched recently from Aviva for this very reason.

The sooner TT realises this the better.

Actually, I think it is a great system - it's free, you don't have to hang around on a phone in a queue and you can make sure that the details you give them are complete and exact before you finally post it.

Often you will get the answer very quickly, and not always by the TT staff, but from another TT customer who has read your post and experienced the same problem.

Finally, the fact that you are suffering a breakdown in their service/equipment puts the pressure on TT to resolve it because everyone can read the forum and can see how you are being treated.
  • I had the dubious pleasure of contacting TT operative in Philippines yesterday.

TT is good when it works but not great when it doesn't. I was a former OPAL customer (business broadband and then also phone) that moved onto the TT platform. OPAL had UK tech staff who were brilliant. Performance and service have declined ever since and costs have gone up.

If anyone has a link to the TT forum I'd really appreciate it.
Unfortuately TT website won't let me register my account online as it doesnot seem to acknowledge that I've got more than 1 TT account at 2 different locations!

I agree, in an ideal world Talktalk would provide top class UK based phone support ala Zen broadband, AAISP etc...but then their prices would have to rise significantly. For the money Talktalk charge (ie peanuts), its simply not possible for them to bring ALL their support back to UK...its simple economics. However their forum staff are excellent and if you don't mind waiting a day or two, then their online staff WILL resolve your query. If you don't mind using TT forums for support, then you'll have no problems whatsoever by going direct with TT. If decent phone support is a must, then go with a TalkTalk reseller such as Xilo but then you'll have to pay higher prices. Think of TalkTalk as the GiffGaff of ISPs ;)

That's not necessarily true. My current provider is actually a talktalk reseller with their own (far better) CS and, bizarrely, at the moment actually charge less than talktalk.
