Options
Im currently in the midst of debating if i should change my current provider from BT to Talk Talk as they are much cheaper. Should I? Or is Virgin better?

been with talk talk from past 2 years and never had any problem, but again i live in center london so every provider is good here. Dont forgot to go through Quidco for cashback if you end up making your mind for talk-talk.

    differentiate between better and cheap

they do not always go hand in hand I am sorry to say

so go for the cheapest you can find or look for something that is better for your circumstances ....

They can all be good and bad. Customer Service is no ones strong point, sadly.

Talktalk is the Ryanair of broadband providers. I won't be going back to them no matter how cheap. If you want a cheaper version of BT have a look at plusnet.
  • friend of mine was on talk talk but wasn't raving about it.

    No
    ........
  • I've been with TalkTalk for 3 years now and been very impressed by the quality of service and support (forum). My tiny piddly Scottish Highlands exchange doesn't have 21CN so can't get get >8 meg speeds from any BT based isp and TalkTalk is the only LLU supplier. Prior to joining Talktalk i was paying £35 a month with Goscomb for a 8128/828 kbps connection + £12 line rental. Now i'm paying TalkTalk £5.75 pm for the Plus service (+£114 annual line rental) for a 18 meg down / 1 meg up connection. Get line speeds 24/7, not had a single outage and any support queries have been satisfactorily handled by their UK based forum staff. Talktalk would not have > 4 million customers if they were that bad...as Orange LLU found out a few years ago, customers WILL leave you in droves if you provide them with a p1ss poor service no matter how cheap you are.

If your service is great and you are getting what you want from BT then stay put and pay the extra if its not too much.

I would not consider moving broadband providers if I was happy with the service. I would not go with Talk Talk personally but I know lots of people who've done the rounds of Talk Talk, Plusnet and gone back to BT eventually. That happened to me with my phone calls a long time ago (Toucan, Talk Talk, Sky - not one of those billed me correctly) and now I won't shift from BT because it is chaotic with everyone else and BT get it right. But then everyone's experience will be so different I imagine.

It really does depend on how you feel about your current broadband. You might be able to talk BT into matching Talk Talk price? Big ask but you never know?
Former MSE user - I don't post on MSE anymore, or respond to PMs. I would like to be able to officially set profile to "former user" which would be helpful as it seems you can never leave MSE - just choose not to use it!
  • I was with BT but since my move I can say talk talk has been ,brilliant value ,and the service has been superbe ,if your loaded and want to throw away money stay with BT ,if not I'd say talk talk all the way !
