Are Tesco always this aggressive?

Options
I only ever go to the big Tesco for Cadbury Chocolate Cream Cake because it isn't stocked anywhere else so was there last weekend. I thought I'd look for plastic cutlery as we're having the whole family over for a birthday party and Asda only had 2 packs, couldn't find any but saw some teaspoons reduced from 75p to 25p, so bought 4 of them in a daze as our teaspoons are quite grotty now and remembered at checkout I'd forgotten sweet potatoes for tea so went back to get them. However, daugher was playing with one of the teaspoons, and it being the weekend and me not being quite with it, I totally forgot the sweet potato and thought 4's never going to be enough for the party which isn't what I got them for anyway, I should go get some more. Then whilst I was at it I noticed they had forks, which we totally don't need, reduced as well, but as I was back in party buying mode I thought that's really great because we've got pink and green plastic plates, so red forks and green teaspoons will go really well. It was only because I went to the self service till this time and scanned them myself that I noticed the teaspoons had gone through at 75p but were meant to be 25p the same price as the forks, so I went over to customer service.

They went mental. The woman got the shelf label and scored them through my receipt for a refund, but then she got really annoyed that I'd bought 2 lots and said she couldn't refund me because the barcode was different to the one on the spoons. I said but you've a sign that says if things don't add up you'll refund double? So she got 2 managers over, and when I said but they're lime teaspoons, and it says on the shelf label lime teaspoons, so even if the barcode's different it's the same product one of them said I was being really patronising and that they'd throw me out the store  So I said I'm not, you're treating me like a shoplifter, by which time little one was throwing a paddy, so I grabbed the shelf edge label out the mouthy manager's hand - the other one didn't say a thing I think he was quite embarrassed by it all - and as I was holding little one my hand brushed her head, so as she was already in a bad mood she howled. And the dept manager smiled and said 'oh and watch you don't hurt your child'.

It was EIGHT little teaspoons. It was awful. They treated me like scum of the century. And they over charged me £4. Are the always this nasty when their prices are wrong?

It sounds a bit of a mountain out of a molehill, but what happened, did you end up with the cutlery and a refund of the price difference? If so, either put it down to a bad experience or email a complaint so they can investigate.

If there is still an unresolved situation, perhaps you can explain a bit more.

Our Tesco is pretty good on the customer service, but we're all human I guess so I am sure there are bad 'uns as well as good 'uns at our store.

Sorry, but did you ramble on at them like you just did on here. Most of what you posted has nothing to do their attitude.

Green spoons, red forks, sweet potatoes, chocolate cake
  • I love that Cadbury's chocolate cake :D
  • No I definitely just brushed her. And he might have said 'oh be careful you don't hit your child', and not 'hurt your child'. But it's the way he said it with a smile, that he was taking pleasure in seeing a little girl cry. It was absolutely skin crawling.

Oops, cross posted. I'm sure i am rambling, it was almost a week ago and I'm still really upset.

    I got 8 teaspoons.

They were supposed to be 25p.

    They charged 75p each.

    They didn't refund me.

I'm not upset they didn't refund me, I'm upset they behaved as though I were criminal for telling them.

I didn't tell them all that. I just went over when I noticed I'd been over charged. When the woman got upset I bought 2 lots I said well I realised I needed more.

Write a polite, clear email to Tesco then and make your point that you feel that they could have handled the situation better. Then perhaps you will be able to feel better yourself.

Are you having a rough time in general? I find it a lot harder to let things go when I am on a downer.

I am fine at the moment so I wouldn't have been annoyed for more than a day at the situation you described.

It's not worth spending much more time mulling on it.

  • The woman at the desk clearly thought you were trying to take advantage of the incorrect price by buying two lots if teaspoons in quick succession.

Not excusing the behaviour if this is indeed accurate but you can see why they may have thought you were trying to make money on this especially when asking for their 'double the difference' on the overcharge.

And don't mention birthday party, ASDA, sweet potatoes, forks, chocolate cake or coloured plates.
loose does not rhyme with choose but lose does and is the word you meant to write.
