Enjoying the Sunshine whilst Saving for the Rainy Day

Afternoon!
DH is doing the school run so thought I would pop on here
Spendy day today as it was food shop day. Think we spent close to £130 on it . However there were lots of cleaning products in this shop & two pillows for our room. Think just those few things came in at around £30! Unfortunate but necessary spends.
We've called the MA about what sort of money we could borrow based on just DH's wages, and not taking into account any child benefits or WTC, we're waiting for a call back. That call will decide if we look to rent or buy in the next few months....I'm hoping we can do the latter!
£300 planned spends for tomorrow as we've booked the car in for 4 new tyres. We've gone for a mid range one and decided to get all of them done together as 2 were definitely nearly bald and 2 were nearly illegal I think so that will come from the car fund that we have. DH is looking to fix the brakes himself, i'm not sure this is safe but he said he's seen others doing it and it doesn't look hard  I know he's trying to save some money but I really would like our brakes to work!
Tax credits have been paid this month so i've added that to ynab as well as all the spends today, it's telling me i'm over budget already this month and I need to make up the short fall of around £300. Easy if the tenancy money comes in, not so easy if it doesn't!
I'm just waiting for a lady to come and buy a rug I had for sale, she's already late so I hope she's not a no show ...I do have others lined up but it's such a mess about and annoying
Home start tomorrow and I have to pop into the office on Friday. I must fill in my expenses!!! Anyway best go have to do some jobs before the kids all come piling in again! If the news is in later about the house buying/renting I'll try and pop back onMORTGAGE BALANCE when we moved Aug 2024, £120,000. January 1st £118,267.06. and the park was lovely. The sun decided to stay out whilst we were there and the winds had died down so we weren't blown away :rotfl:. Rain and winds are back again today but i've been lucky that I hung the washing out just as the rain cleared up and it's nearly dry ...right before the rain is due again :rotfl:
Oh forgot to mention in earlier post, ds1 has started his gcses today!!!! I was so nervous for him! He's just finished his second one of the day, he's had Geography & Eng Lang so far and he has to stay behind for the graphics catch up session as his coursework was due last week but as a fair few of them never finished it he's putting on extra sessions. I think they've been given too much to do from the looks of it so all of them are stressing over it, I really hope they all get it done this week so at least they stand a chance of a good grade with the exam partMORTGAGE BALANCE when we moved Aug 2024, £120,000. Best of luck to your son I'm sure he'll ace his exams......always thought it was unfair to have various exams on the same day it should be one exam per day per subject xxNEXT TARGET: Halifax credit card DEC 22 £0 / £4499.12POAMAYC 2011 £6378.35 POAMAYC 2012 £5000.78POAMAYC 2013 £3480.04 POAMAYC 2014 £4085.14POAMAYC 2015 £7565.24 POAMAYC 2016 £8000.90 POAMAYC 2017 £7278.80 POAMAYC 2018 £13208.18POAMAYC 2019 £13309.28 POAMAYC 2020 £15026.050

Good luck to DS1! I used to work in a school and lots of those doing DT sorts of exams had to go in during the Easter holidays/inset days and stay late. Clearly a problem with some courses when this happens, methinks, if coursework cannot be completed in the school day.
Fingers crossed for a positive result from the MA. Or at least a response (!) so you can get a clear plan going.0 -
Hi all, first week of exams is over for ds1, he's been super stressed and taking it out on us. Today's rant was about moving again! I'm learning to just ignore him and offer him something to eat.....it's just like that snickers advert with Joan Collins. He eats and then returns to normal
So we finally heard from our mortgage advisor earlier today! I'd already spent all week on RM and had saved lots to favourites *oops sent too soon...ds1 playing with keyboard* and we basically have another MIP for £99k :T So dh has one viewing lined up tomorrow from one of my favouritesI'm staying at home with the kids and he will take lots of pics and also get a feel for the place etc. DS1 has to be somewhere so it's just easier if he goes alone! Hoping it's lovely as I think I will go on DH's impression, he's the level headed one.........I'm happy to be living in a cardboard box right now if it's in the right place

And..... and...... and...... do we take from that cryptic post you have a mortgage offer? Everything crossed for good news on the house front and DS1 calming down.
LOL at DS1, we had the stomping with DS2. We just ignored him and twenty minutes later he was out of his room and his head in the fridge? Oh and, top tip, we put high pile carpet in his room so he couldn't slam the door. Although, we have hand made oak doors and we think he got the idea that slamming those and damaging them would've release the fires of hell from us. He saw the light.0 -
Yes!!
when the last offer fell through it was at £103k and so we thought it would be a huge drop on just DHs wage alone but they've basically offered 3x his wage which is 99k :T considering our credit is rubbish I thought it might be around 90k so I am happy! The house he's going to see is a three bed but a village location again and the garden is huge (although bare there's not even one plant!!) so we're thinking if we like it of either an extension or some sort of summer house with planning permission to use as a bedroom (not sure how hard that actually is to get though?!)
My ds1 likes to slam doors... In fact I think we will be charged for his door when we leave he's slammed it that much it's cracked at the hinges *sigh*!MORTGAGE BALANCE when we moved Aug 2024, £120,000. January 1st £118,267.06. Yey!!!! Fab. News.
If you want to know about planning rules, phone the local council and explain the situation and see what they say. Keep the convo. fairly loose and anonymous.
Very pleased for you.0 -

Very pleased for you. We've put an offer in!!!
DH loved it and sent me hundreds of pictures so it was like I was there too :rotfl: it's about the same size as we have now inside Dh said but the garden is absolutely mahoosive!!! There is also an unfinished extension of a utility area & downstairs toilet. DH said we could convert this room to a small room for ds1 instead of anything else and it would make the house larger than what we have now if we get it finished. We've offered £6k below the asking price as there are a few things i'm unsure of. Mainly....there is NO heating. There is a working Rayburn in the kitchen which heats the water and they say the house (but I don't understand how that works?) there is under floor heating in the hallway and kitchen also but nowhere else in the house.
Then we need to finish the utility/4th bedroom area and change the downstairs toilet as that wasn't done before the previous seller had to move.
Good bits- There is also an open fireplace in the front room (:T:D) and lovely bay windows. The garden is huge as I said and nothing has been done to it so a blank canvas for chickens, flower beds, veg patches & greenhouses.....It seems perfect! DH said the area is nice too and CLEAN unlike where we are now. The EA has called DH and submitted the offer to the vendor who is keen to sell quick as he's had to relocate because of his job. SO we may hear back today otherwise probably Monday. We are willing to pay the asking price BUT it means we have no money left to finish the jobs he's left....I have factored in what I think it will cost to do these jobs and no extra so I hope he thinks it's fair and says yes. Then it's all down to the mortgage application AGAIN!! We have the MIP but we had that last time although i'm trying to think positively it's at the back of my mind............*fingers crossed* please MSE friends (you're the only ones i've told too!!!)MORTGAGE BALANCE when we moved Aug 2024, £120,000.
