Well if your debts were 32k and the new car Mrs K is looking at is 39k whose in the biggest debt? So no more guilt!Great opportunities to help others seldom come, but small ones surround us every day. -- Sally Koch0

She should be saving up for the car, not a deposit

What do we do on the weekends...we go to see our respective parents, walk the dog, clean the house, visit the gym, I go to cheerleading, read and sew, he works and plays on the PC, and we both play PS3.
Shopping is NOT a hobby and I'm annoyed for you that she blew nearly the value of a month's wages for me on a whim.

Fortunately today has been much better, she's at wor so can't spend and I've been doing music stuff.

It's not really a problem if you can pay for it, though is it?
I wish she'd save for the car too but it would be years away then and to be honest with you Mrs. K. has always been very much "want it, want it NOW"!heartbreak_star wrote: »She should be saving up for the car, not a deposit

Unfortunately, shopping (for all kinds of things) has been too much of a "hobby" for us for too long.
However, I agree that is not really to be considered a "hobby" and one of the reasons I am getting back into music as it's a very cheap hobby when at a level where a teacher is not really needed. Problem is every one of Mrs. K.'s hobbies involve a lot of money being thrown at them.
It was quite literally a months wages for me.

Does she actually realise it's a month's wages for you?
I'd be tempted to hide her credit card. I know that's incredibly mean and very unviable, but still

HBS: Yes. She also realises we're going to have a difficult March as I drew no salary for February. Her reasoning is she's going to pay it back once she's got the deposit for the car and there's "no harm done" because she is "capable of paying her bills".
:rotfl: I very much doubt I'd be able to do such a thing but a nice thought, eh?

Monday 3rd March, 2014.
Dear Diary,
Today I have been contemplating how exactly one moves on from becoming debt free to becoming sensible with money in order to not end up in the same position again. Unfortunately, I have few other answers than to be doing more of the same, that is living within a budget which is somewhat of a daunting prospect to somebody who had never budgeted before my MSE days and finds it difficult at the best of times. Not to mention Mrs. K. thinks it's all just one big waste of time and we should be enjoying ourselves, so long the debt doesn't turn into "bad" debt.
Today I was participating in the music project which was hilarious as always. However, my choice of vehicle today managed to denounce my Lord of the Manor image with the ever testing "cool kids" (read little *****) and replace it with one they seemed to identify with a little easier. You can just call me Alexander K., Prince of the Ghetto.

Alex, or should I say 'cool dude' :rotfl:, I stopped following your thread but saw it on the recent posts so popped in and glad to see you're keeping on keeping on :T.
A bit concerned about Mrs K's views - presumably 'bad debt' is debt you can't afford - so by that token your previous debt was 'ok/good debt' - until life took a turn for the worse. I hope pride doesn't come before a fall - what if she is made redundant, falls ill etc?
Love to your pens, give them a stroke from me

GGA positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort

Hello there,
Not sure about that one.
I'm not doing very well at paying things off at the moment (nobody wants to buy at the moment) but am doing better day to day.
Bad debt is exactly what you think it is and yes, in her eyes nothing wrong with me owing money when it was affordable to pay. I'd rather not think what would happen if she lost her job for some reason. Doesn't help that she seems to constantly be having arguments with her superiors at the moment and is sometimes looking for a new job. That said, she's not an idiot.
Pens dutifully stroked on your behalf.

I guess Mrs K just hasn't seen her lightbulb moment, and while you have accepted the debt then I guess she feels "entitled to" an equivalent sum or item/s she wants
The spending spree on Sat was just past a joke, yes we all need clothes, for some people they only get 1k per month for everything, yes we all want, me I want my holidays, but I will sarifice everything to get them, I have to get the holidays when I can, health reasons dictate a lot and financial, - but if Mrs K wants to spend a fortune then I think she needs to sell some thing to replace those items.
I know you feel the debt is your responsibility, but I bet a penny to a £1, Mrs K had some of those benefits?? That is done and dusted - but you need to think about these, like the car at Christmas that came from the business, - ok your not drawing a wage - but that puts pressure in other directions to keep the budget.
Weekends when DD was Little K's age - would be a trip to the park, the swings, local playground, local farm, swimming,
Indoors - colouring, games, cooking, making a mess.
It doesn't have to shopping all the time xxx rip dad... we had our ups and downs but we’re always be family xx0 -
All debt is bad debt, except perhaps a mortgage which is generally an unfortunate necessity.
