Alex - I suggest not watching the news - watch some kids cartoons instead.
Its great to have a social conscience. but seeing all the bad things and not being able to help can often be draining.
Do your bit if you can - pop a few tins in the food bank or something and go without the smoked salmon - but don't worry and fret over it - some things are just too big for one person - so just do your bit on your own doorstep - and then shift your thinking to something cheerful - like Christmas!!Great opportunities to help others seldom come, but small ones surround us every day. -- Sally Koch0 -
Good morning Alex, congratulations on the 90 days:j
Give yourself a huge pat on the back, or several, you have made fantastic progress on debt busting, your health, family relationships, your understanding of how others live, self esteem, to name just some. We are all works in progress and you are doing well, just keep plodding in the right direction.
Good advice from 7roland8 about the news etc, I too can become very weighed down (particularly in the winter) by sad or bad events, natural disasters, child abuse, people having awful things happening in their lives, animal cruelty, the tears and feeling of helplessness can surface easily, but we can only do what we can do as an individual, we cannot make all things right, so perhaps give to the foodbank, donate a few things that you don't want to e-bay to charity shops, smile at everyone that you meet, and treat everyone as you would like to be treated, might sound trivial but will make a difference to others. Whilst filling the car with fuel one cold winter night at SM petrol station I happened to make eye contact with a smartly suited guy, I smiled and continued filling the tank, on the way out he stopped and said that he had a rubbish day, was late home and hungry and that my smile had "made his day". Cost to me - nothing - feel good factor - sky high.:D:D:D:D

hey that smartly suited guy could have been Alex!!
I agree - if we all did our own little bit cumulatively it would have a great effect.Great opportunities to help others seldom come, but small ones surround us every day. -- Sally Koch0 -

Hello everyone!
Uffff I am rather impressed with me today! I took my daughter and friends ice skating. Whilst they are off shopping just now, I was in the shops myself tempted by all those new clothes grrrr I want to have them all but I had the courage to put them all back ! Ha ha ha I am being a good girl and I think it helps that I can report it back here in your threat! :-)
Next Friday I am off to Liverpool with some friends so I know it will then when I have my next drink! :-)
Alex, I got the impression that you might be finding 'difficult' counselling because you've not had a good experience previously? Plus you were thinking of giving a go at it again but I wonder whether you are ready? I mean, I (we) think you would benefit from it but... Are going because you felt persuaded? Or you really want it? What are you hoping to get out of counselling? If you are not ready yet, I guess you will feel stuck for a while?
I shall come back to share a secret, the kids are ready to go back home.. Taping fast and hoping it makes sense what I wrote!
Regards to all!No debts 🙌0 -
Course you have fweinds ... And real virtual fweinds at that. We dont give a scooby what car you drive, what job you do, or whether youre wearing this seasons designer label . We dont care that you will holiday in a tent in Centre parcs instead of the Bahamas ... We just care that you succeed and are happy.
Damn I get maudlin when I cant sleep ! X
Why thank you, Mara.
Hope you managed to get some sleep in the end.Well actually we do. Because if you started driving a RR Evoque, became an investment banker and started wearing this season's Burberry we would NOT be impressed.
:rotfl: As a "real" LRO I'd not be impressed with myself if I went out and bought an Evoque! No chance re. a new career as an investment banker, I'm no great mathematician ... or was that the whole point?Alex - I suggest not watching the news - watch some kids cartoons instead.

I suppose watching the news isn't particularly good for me and thank you for helping me to put into perspective, I was feeling rather low having developed somewhat of a conscience.
As for Christmas, you are all to blame for me wanting to put my Christmas decoration up and my disappointment that it is NEXT week we are visiting Santa and not this. :rotfl:2018 totals:

MaddieMay: Thank you very much.Definitely going to try keep plodding in the right direction. I've spent my day learning a new piece of music, not done that in many years.
Glad it is not just me who gets effected by "bad things". Funnily enough, I never used to. Also enjoyed reading your tale and often say hello to people in the street. Perhaps it's because I'm "northern" and we are ALWAYS friendly to our neighbours.hey that smartly suited guy could have been Alex!!

:rotfl: It's been a while since I've wore a tie to work. However, I do agree a smile costs nothing.Aww Maddie May, Thats lovely. Costs nothing to share a smile, We should maybe do it more.
I'll second that.2018 totals:

Well done!
In regards to counselling, I'm not sure if I'm ready or not more so if I'll ever 100% feel "ready". I'm going in the hope it will do me good long term, not after a short term fix as I'm aware that won't happen.2018 totals:

Friday 29th November, 2013.
Day 90.
Dear Diary,
Today has been fairly busy with the usual stuff: looking after son, and afternoon as a family and work. However, I find myself not writing about my day, nor my (lack of) debt busting endeavours. Instead, I find myself commenting upon a facebook status made by a former school friend.
Yes, yes I know ... taking facebook seriously, especially regarding somebody I have not seen in getting on for 14 years. Anyway, the school friend shall remain anonymous though his idiotic comment regarding the trial of the men suspected of the Rigby murder will not; him suggesting the said suspects should be damned without such a "privilege" of a trial. I'm not saying the men are innocent. However, if our country is not to bow down to the levels of such extremists we must uphold civilised values.
This same man, who holds a position of relative power over others, has been known to often write rash, off the cuff comments and was a lousy student when I knew him. And yet, with his mediocre degree from a second-rate university he managed to worm his way into a position that could give him a certain amount of political influence, more on a local level to where he lives but political influence none the less.
Apologies for my rant and before I waste a sleepless night on thinking about this, I will try to focus on the nice afternoon my wife, son and I spent together as well as my pleasure in starting to learn a new (to me) piece of music. Further apologies for my lack of debt busting, I am determined to at least get a couple of items listed on eBay this weekend though, so hope this will make up at least in part.
Summary:
-£30.00 Diesel - LR.
-£7.50 Sheet Music.
Yours Faithfully,
Alex.2018 totals:
