all I'm interested in is getting you to send those F&F letters Alex, not your self-perceptions and views on a defunct class-based system!

EDIT: sorry - it's your diary so you can write what you want - but I fear you're dodging the real issue here by focusing on the image perceptions rather than the fact you haven't yet started F&F negotiations!!

. However, the reality of the person I present to the rest of the world is still a reality for I do not leave the eccentric fantasy of pretending to be of a higher social class than I actually am in my mind alone; I act upon it in my words, speech, choice of material items I fill my life within, the music I listen to and activities I pursue.

Aha! :) This is a new challenge for MSE way of life.
Bearing in mind that it is not about how much you earn or spend, it's about getting the best value for the same end result and always spending within ones means.

I will put some thought in to it later today on how to live like one is in 'higher social class' on a take home of about 4k pcm. :p I am writing this tongue in cheek though Alex....but I am sure it is do-able. Most things are with some creative thought.

Incidentally though I do know some old money types with inherited 'wealth' and they are as tight as a Knats a*** :D I think they dress entirely out of the charity shops or wear the clothes of their deceased relatives. Mind you, they are worth about 15 million I think.

isn't that true fc123 - those with the most wealth are usually the ones who don't flash it in your face - and that's how they keep their wealth!!! I grew up in Rutland - trust me - I KNOW about concealed wealth!!!!! :D:D

Hi Alex, just caught up with your diary & have to say I am shocked at your family's behaviour.

You father sounds just like Bradley Hardacre from the 1970s series brass, if you have never seen it look it up.

You have said that you like surrounding yourself with nice things, it may be that you actually believe people will admire you for having them? My OH is an example of this type of behaviour.

Any way, keep trying & good luck

Sorry. I'll try to splash the cash a bit more next time I'm in Oakham :rotfl:.
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort

    .

Again, this is a pretty harsh post...but I'm really not sure what to make of you sometimes, Alex. I honestly don't know what to make of you after that post. I think you maybe need some help to be comfortable in who you are.

I would have said that's more the point but we sometimes take a while to settle down into our true selves and be truly content with where we are, who we are and what we have achieved....in all aspects of our lives.
32 is young. I don't think I felt truly content with who I was until about aged 43.

In Alex's defence I think he says it as more of a 'lifestyle look/aspiration' rather than having an 'Aristo attitude' to others....well I hope it is.
No different to adopting a Bohemian look/lifestyle despite growing up in 60's semi with parents who were anything but bohemian.

Via my daughters school I met some truly aristo girls who desperately tried to talk differently and battled to have a more Towie / chavvy look rather than the Made in Chelsea look that they could afford to have and that came naturally to them. One lives solo in her familys spare 5 bed house in Chelsea and tries to look and speak like she came from our area.:rotfl:
