I’ve just had Quantum QM125RF fitted. Worked out the controls etc but I’ve noticed when heat is “on”, it’s making a clicking noise quite a lot of the time. Very noticeable. Is this just it settling in or shouldn’t it be doing that? Also, when heat is “on” should the fan be blowing all the time? It does for a while, can feel it blasting heat out but then it stops (although I can still feel heat when I put my hand down by the grille). The panel doesn’t show any error codes and says “heat on”. Not sure if it’s doing what it’s meant to do or not! Any help gratefully received.
I know this is an older comment but I've recently had a QM150 fitted and am finding the same thing happening. I have the heating set to come on at lunchtime for a hour or so but I find that the fan will blow heat out of the vent for 30 seconds and then switch off for a minute before starting up again for another 30 seconds.

I'm assuming this is because the room temperature has reached the set temperature on the Quantum and so the fan is just releasing heat to maintain the temperature, but I wanted to see if others have experienced the same thing?

I experienced the same thing the first day I used it. I think it stops when it has got to the right temperature and then restarts if it cools down. I changed the temperature to around 26 and it stayed on a lot longer. Try increasing the temperature and see what happens.

No heat comes out unless it's in Heater On mode. This is kind of annoying as my old heater let heat out according to the output setting which just lifted a flap to control the amount that came out and required no electricity. It also heated the room as it was charging up. The Quantum doesn't do that (though a little heat escapes from the top vent straight into the wall - shame it wasn't at the front and went into the room).
  • Thanks for the reply tracytcb, I've got mine set to the default 21 so I'm guessing it's at the right temperature and just pushing out heat every minute or so to keep a constant level. Just a bit annoying hearing the fan come on and off continually.

I agree that the top vent releasing heat, would be more useful if it was on the front to circulate into the room. Instead you just end up with a hot wall. Particularly over the last few colder nights I've found the top of the Quantum gets very hot in the morning, which I suspect is due to increased overnight charging. Shame some of that heat can't be circulated into the room better.

Yes the fan is annoying. Never had any noise from my old heater as it didn't require a fan. Kept the flat warm enough for me. If you ask me - old tech is the best. Silent, off peak only, and no noise. lol

That's what it's supposed to do! The heater controls the output via two ways- a "shutter" (You will hear that open and shut occasionally) and the fan. (which is far from noisy) It's meaningless to judge the heater by feeling the casing and lower outlet. It's better to have an independent thermometer somewhere else in the room - I do that and find that the room temperature is within 1 degree C of the preset temperature on the Quantum. If this isn't happening then there is something wrong with the power input OR the heater is undersized for the room (taking into account the wall and ceiling insulation levels)

Yes, that’s how it works. Same as a thermostat on an electric radiator, except the Quantum uses a fan.
My warm air heater uses an old electro mechanical thermostat on the wall and the higher it’s set, the longer the fan stays on each time.
No fan running means no heat.

I don't hear a shutter at all. I do hear a clicking cooling down noise between heat outputs. No fan isn't exactly noisy, but it is a noise that was not there with my previous heater. lol.

I guess I thought that, once at the optimum temperature, the heater would just continually release a small amount of heat to maintain the temperature (during the heating period) rather than blowing heat out for a few seconds, stopping for a minute and then restarting again. That's not a complaints about the heater, I was just surprised that the fan was switching on and off, or the shutter opening and closing, so frequently.

I think it would be better designed with a flap that let heat out rather than using a fan. At first I thought the fan would only be required for the boost function. But no. If you want any heat coming out it has to use a fan.
I do sometimes find it annoying clicking on and off. And there is heat wasted when it charges overnight through the vent on the top which goes straight into the wall. Would be nice if that bit of heat went in to warm the room overnight as it charged. My old heater did that and it was lovely and warm on a morning. Now it is cold every morning.

I have tried running the heater for a couple of hours before I get up, but I still find the room cold in comparison.

    Hello,
Just had a Quantum Storage heater installed in the bedroom and woke up to these metallic clicking noises which are quite loud! I can also hear the fan going on and off but that's fine and tolerable. Basically the fan goes on for some seconds, then it stops, then those loud clicks start. Actually had to turn off the heater because it's quite bad. Does this seem normal? Might be an issue with the fitting (was the first time the electrician was fitting one and they were struggling to fit the bottom grill...)
    Thanks!

    Hi,
Yes I have had the same problem. Had a Dimplex engineer out yesterday actually. He couldn't find anything wrong except it wasn't fitted totally securely to the wall. One screw was just going round and round and the heater isn't flush against the wall. I have to get the company who installed it to refitt it.

I don't actually think that is the whole problem though. The clicking is very loud at night time and wakes me up. I think some of it is due to the metal expanding and contracting. Shouldn't have to put up with it though. I think the whole thing is an extremely bad design.

I still have my old Creda TSR18MW which I am going to refurbish (just waiting for one thing to arrive). Seriously considering putting that back in once it's finished.

Take a video of your heater making the noise and email Dimplex. They will send out an engineer.
