These no shows are fine in some ways as it can postpone the outlay but when it comes to something that needs doing & needs doing soon it is not so good..

oh thank you. I'd never thought of an electric log splitter. There are many things fabulous about these diaries and the sharing of knowledge is just one.Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became

The VNM is off today (works Tues-Sat) and he has decided to do "fencing". We have rounded up all the fence posts I have spare, found some cross rails and some bits of wood left over from other projects that he can use up and he thinks he can fix the run that is broken. (I had bought a post banger earlier in the summer because he popped in two posts if I bought all that was needed tools wise). I'm so touched by him spending a day off doing this, he maybe won't finish it all but he will finish enough to make it secure for the horses. This is just wonderful.
And in horsey news before work I took the Charming Cob out. Now, open fields have been my nemesis for a while, but this morning I pushed open a gate and used the bridleway that runs through an open field. I just walked to the end, through the little wooded path and turned at the next gate and walked back. I've needed to crack this for a long time (the ex really hammered my confidence in so many ways) and today, we just did it. No biggie. Charming Cob perfect of course.Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became

@Watty1 late to the party but the bonus coffee and cake is a small karma repayment to you for all the good you've done and will keep on doing. You utterly deserve it. Onwards and upwards love Humdinger xx4

So very pleased to hear about VNM helping with the fence - that must be such a relief 😊❤️

It is a huge relief especially given my financial situation. There is still masses to do but he has promised to help finish it and in the meantime the temporary electric fence is holding up well and I was thinking about resting the field in the spring, so spring has come early (trying to keep positive)
Yesterday had 2 x £100 fines for the late payment of stamp duty on the house and the land (one each). Whizzed those over to the solicitor with a polite !!!!!! ? as it was their responsibility to file these and they assured me they would pay as the returns had indeed been late due to their "confusion" over the matter. I feel certain that will appear on my bill at some point under some waffle heading like "file maintenance".
Have also had the capital gains tax calculation from my accountant for selling the rental property to ex which is way more than I had hoped. I do have enough to pay it but only by using money saved for my personal tax due in January. I do trust my accountant and he has come up with some ways we can get it down a bit so I will look that over tomorrow as today heavily committed.
Here is the odd thing though which I'm going to share because it is true but hard to explain. My income is now £800 less per month (loss of rent) my savings are cleared out (buying the house out as I couldn't get a mortgage so everything I had except premium bonds has been cashed in) so very little in savings account and loss of interest (!80 per month) and yet I still feel better off financially than when I was with the ex. I'm managing fine on my income. I'm managing to do essential repairs if not the "wants" am manging the "needs". I know I need to focus on my spending and getting it down now but nevertheless I "feel" better off than I have been in many years.
The last time I felt this well off was in my 20s when I lived in rental properties in London and the interesting thing then is I had very little money then too. I am coming to realise that money may be a state of mind for those of us in the very fortunate position of being able to afford a roof and pay bills. I do appreciate there are so many who are not this lucky but, for me, I can pay my bills, I have a roof over my head and I can afford food. I am actually very well off.

Yes, I think Ex may have won the odd battle, but you've definitely won the war! Brilliant to hear you sounding so positive and forward thinking. You can now discard all the rubbish that he put into your head, and be yourself. The thing is, it can only get better.... and it will. (((hugs))) XXI Believe.....
