No seriously, just don’t buy things. 99% of our success with our savings rate is attributed to the fact that we don’t buy things... You can and should take advantage of discounts.... But at the end of the day, the only way to truly save money is to not buy stuff. Money doesn’t walk out of your wallet on its own accord.

Thank you all so much for your cheerleading. You have all bought me to tears but in a good way. You've reminded me that I've had a really hard time and come out the other side thanks to determination, resourcefulness, support from others and some secretly stashed cash and it is ok to simply be overwhelmed and tired as I recover. Thank you all

Thank you KK.
Was tired and irritable all day yesterday. Went to bed earlier very grumpy after going to the local garage and spending £6 on a box of posh chocolate biscuits to cheer self up and then only ate 2 chocolate ginger ones so I could have bought a much cheaper packet. Oh and I was going to try and give up gluten as an experiment so that won't be happening now i have these expensive biscuits to eat.
In an effort to start the day off better today, I have had a good breakfast, the horses are in the field, I have lunch and dinner planned and am at my desk working before 9.00 am. OK, reading on here, but, next step will be to check the business accounts. And -.drumroll - .my text for each module of my course is written.
Next steps in course: Read rough each draft and make sure I have everything covered and work out timings if I was to present it. One module I know is very short but one set of text needs breaking into two or maybe three sections. I have printed out the text and have it on the dining room table. I aim to have that read through and edited by the end of the week. .

With the capital tax bill now imminent (needs to be paid by 12th) I have been reviewing spending. I've been surviving by throwing money at anything and everything. Accordingly I have a largish credit card bill and my food spending is clearly out of control. I'm fairly sure the old style board could feed a small nation on what I'm spending on me.
In order to make sure I eat properly I've been buying M!ndful Chef meals which are great as they are restaurant quality and mean if the VNM comes round I can do a great dinner for us both. Or I have left overs. If there is insufficient of those meals ordered I tend to "pop" to a local shop or M+S and buy something or I know I will go without which doesn't help my mood.
So for November my focus is on filling the freezer with pre-prepped meals. When ex and I were paying off the mortgage I would spend 2 days every month or so prepping meals and i think it is time to go back to something similar. I've made a list of food that is in the freezer that needs "using up" and over November my plan is to use everything up and refill with home cooked easy meals. I'll post what I cook as I go.
This and continuing to do the no new toiletries until the stash has gone should help save some moneyMade it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became

That's a good plan - just the planning is going to help you look forward. Meal planning with substitutions rather than top up shops is what we talk about on Reverse Meal Planning, if you care to have a ramble on there - lots of better ideas than mine - you will recognise a few familiar faces tooSave £12k in 2025 #2 I am at £4863.32 out of £6000 after May (81.05%)

Paid my accountant for filing the Capital Gains Tax £300 and paid the tax bill which was just shy of £15500 and just like that my savings accounts are depleted and everything to do with the ex is now ticked off and done.
I had until the 12th to pay but I wanted this done as it was the final piece of drawing a line under matters with the ex and the 1st of the month seems a great day to start afresh.
WattyDog has a trip to the groomers then I am planning a small bottle of something fizzy and an early night to celebrate. 60 mile an hour winds forecast overnight so the bottle of fizzy will be very small just in case of an emergency tonight.
I now feel I can really plan to rebuild savings and come up with a financial plan for the future and of course enjoy the life I have built.

Bravo on paying off the tax bill and drawing a line! 👏
Also, well done on the progress for your course 😊🎉 The meal prepping and eating up what you have will make a big difference to your food spend 😊
