@Watty1 is it worth looking again at your earlier ideas for short term accommodation locally? That this man can put you through this us totally unacceptable but we are all rooting for you. Would you mind reminding me where in the country you are. Love Humdinger xx3

What a weekend! The toilet seat finally broke completely (it was loose when i moved in) on my rental so i decided to replace (they don't have a damage deposit but I love the place and the people and it is the right thing to do). Was in DIY shop and got a phone call from next door to the cottage to say the field behind the horses field was on fire and where were the horses. Bless the neighbours. Not horsey but came round and climbed the gate to keep a watch until i could get back and were even wondering if the horses could go in their garden which is a little further away from fire. I dumped shopping and rushed back stopping only to phone horsey friend down the road who has a key to the gate so she could get the horses out if need be.
What a drama. Luckily when i got back the fire service had the fire under control and it was still a 'safe distance' from the cottage so all good. It did really make me think though about leaving the horses in this weather. Everything is so dry. Praying for rain. In the evening drove back to DIY store and saw another fire just a few mins from the cottage.
Full of mixed feelings about leaving the rental which I will pack up this week. Very sad to be going, it feels like a delightful holiday home and I really love it there. But financially it is the right thing to do. I need to regroup.
Dropped application and supporting letter off to Alms house charity and have an acknowledgement and I should hear after the 31st July which is when the applications close.
Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became
In the event the proverbial hits the fan then co-habitees are better stashing their cash than being mortgage free !!5 -
Also mentally in a slightly better place. Have a long term goal for financial freedom and I have a meeting planned with a planning consultant to discuss the options later this week. (It was for this reason I decided against the static caravan).
Will review carefully what I do whilst house is still jointly owned but i have a plan and I'm working on it so that gives me a positive outlookMade it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became

You clearly have great neighbours and an efficient fire service. I have an image in my head of 3 ponies on a small lawn surrounded by roses!Glad you are feeling a little better and are managing to find positives. I’m so impressed with your determination. Hope the almshouse works out and you can get settled again soon. Or even better the ex finishes his project and leaves so that you can get on with buying the cottage.
How is latest pony settling in? Getting on OK with MH and CC?3 -
Just caught up with your diary after being away from here for months now.. and the saga with the ex continuing I see. Argh.. the back n forth, the police
At least you seem to have your head up high and have hope, all this crazy will become a distant nightmare.
The hypnosis sounds very grounding for you - hopefully you can get in the Alms house for a while and your plans on the land sound promisingDON'T BUY STUFF (from Frugalwoods)
No seriously, just don’t buy things. 99% of our success with our savings rate is attributed to the fact that we don’t buy things... You can and should take advantage of discounts.... But at the end of the day, the only way to truly save money is to not buy stuff. Money doesn’t walk out of your wallet on its own accord.

Dearest @Watty1 glad to hear you're bearing up! What a trauma; your neighbours clearly love you and are looking out for you. I think the temporary almshouse solution is a good one and would give you a solid base. It's all material for your blockbuster of a best-selling novel, no?! Love Humdinger xx4

Funnily enough it probably is. There are some smiles along the way and a fair bit of drama. Last night I began packing up my rental. The new person moves in on Sunday and i will leave on Saturday. I feel really sad and had a few tears this morning. The next steps are going to be hard but the ex does not get to have the house and minimal costs while I pay rent.
I will plan a frugal month next month and try to use up stuff in the cupboards that I have bought back. Was surprised how much stuff can accumulate in a couple of years. Also wondered how many pashminas a girl really needs (a rhetorical question as i have more than anyone could ever need LOL)

Yes totally agree @LadyWithAPlan. So you're moving back into your former house @Watty1? I too know you're going to make a huge success of it all. Love Humdinger xx2
