House had a lot of potential. Will be going back to explore area tomorrow hopefully.
I don't actually want to move but if this worked out it would give us enough money in the pot to retire without worrying and still give us the land we want, just a smaller house, but, there are a lot of ifs and buts and maybes with this purchase as it relies on us buying the whole, converting a barn and selling the original house so it is a major 'project' and I'm not sure with dad on hand we have the energy for that just now. Its an *idea* at this stage only, the attraction being the potential to free up cash for the FIRE plans.
Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became

In the event the proverbial hits the fan then co-habitees are better stashing their cash than being mortgage free !!

Liked the area. Gulp. This might really happen! The area was not perfect, as in my ideal, but if the back of a fag packet calculations work out we could release a substantial sum for retirement and still have the land to keep the horses. Next step is to speak to the planning office and see what their views are on converting the barn into two dwellings (needs to be two as we would be buying with a pal, converting, renovating and then selling off main house)
Call to planning office on list for today :)

Sounds wonderful, Watty - and from what I see in the news today about **another** uplift in state pension age (in the far future) really important.

Yes and no. I feel a bit apathetic about it. I rather like where we live. The spreadsheet however says we will seriously be in debt by the time we are 79 if we stay here.

Anyway planning were reasonably helpful and seems we can apply for a change of use on the barn even if we don't buy it. Will need to interview google to understand exactly what plans are needed and see how much it will cost to have them drawn up.

Also makes me wonder again about having another crack at the planning here.....

    thanks Tilly :)
Last night had curry with friend we thinking about buying with. Was somewhat agast at just how well off she really is! Have suggested she really consider buying on her own and does her sums properly. This might sound a bit odd, but, am not sure I want to go into a property renovation with someone who is so well off she has the ability to write any cheque to get out of trouble. Funnily enough I would rather Mr Watty and I muddle on than that.
