  • We save them too, although I am always telling oh we should put them in the bank and get interest..... It is nice when we turn them into euros though. X

Been missing as had very hectic time. A few days ago whilst doing late night hay found kitten in barn. Tried with Mr Watty to catch kitten to no avail. Kitten eventually spent the night under the laurel hedge (at last - it has a use !). Even got Mrs Laurel Hedges up at 11.30 pm to see if she could tempt kitty out.
Next day rang Cats Protection League for advice and for the deposit of £150 (which I hope they return) the gave me a trap. Long story short managed to trap kitten, and so followed advice, and again 11.00 pm found me shopping for cat litter, litter tray, food etc after having borrowed a very large dog crate. Bedded down little kitten in spare room inside crate as per advice. Went to bed (1 am)
Next day found kitten had escaped and pooped on carpet and stuffed self with food and was luckily in spare room but terrified. Cats protection league now not interested at all and said involve vets. Rang vets who said well sounds feral, nothing we can do. Finally found phone number of lovely woman in North London and located a feral unit for advice. Had to retrap kitten and drive to feral unit (home 1 am!). Kitten is now safe in feral unit which really is the Hilton of cat hotels. Has a lovely double glazed inside pen with comfy fluffy hidy bed, sleep shelf, kitty staircase, toys, litter tray and food. And unit staff are so lovely. Really do know what they are doing. Have said feral kitten would have just lived a feral life in spare room if left there, that the pen would never really have worked and kitten needs neutering and microchipping and to be assessed to see if can become pet. And they opened up very late to accept kitten and were just so kind. They have asked me to continue with trap to see if can get either mum or any other kittens. None so far.
Have since spoken to unit and said I will formerly adopt kitten as either a pet if can be a pet, or, as a feral if it needs to live a feral life. So kitten's story has a very happy ending.

But kitten's rescue meant 3 late nights before Christmas and just above every spare hour taken up. Will be making large donation as so impressed with kitten's rescue unit.
And if anyone reading on here as a place where they could give a feral cat a home please PM me as the unit rehomes cats to farms and stables all over the UK. I just loved their advice, their kindness and there willingness to help. Oh, and, I have a cat :) as I have been approved as kitten won't go on the rehoming list as I have said I will take in.

Maybe. Maybe not. Mr Watty was thinking of just leaving food out. My concern was the little scrap would freeze, starve, or be got by the local foxes. I couldn't just leave some food out there which might have been eaten by neighbouring cats, rats or foxes. I am happy with the outcome. And I get a cat :j

Following advice the trap has been reset in case there are more kittens around, and, there are they will go straight to the unit to be looked after until old enough to be neutered. I am only adopting one but I am sure I can find homes for more, and if I can't the unit will.

Puppy can now get out of the pen on the stable yard. Mr Watty has lost the lead. Lunatic loose. I really do need to do better with puppy.

Well puppy's days of hanging out in hay barn are now truly over anyway as just heard from kitten's unit. In their opinion it will be too terrifying for kitten to be kept in house, apparently they think it rarely works as kitten a bit too old for that. I was going to try but they think is too stressful. Having asked for the advice I would be daft not to follow it I think. So they are lending me a release pen and kitten will move into hay barn for next 2 weeks in special pen and be fed daily. Then we will release kitten and just feed daily and see what happens. Maybe kitten will become a pet, maybe kitten will just be an eco pest controller in stable yard. Over to kitten. Just relieved kitten will have best chance possible now.
