A little while back my plan was independence by Easter. It might not be true independence but the plan is to pay off the mortgage on the BTL so that the income covers our bills.
That means we just have to earn enough to cover the animals, the food and our lifestyle. So not true independence as we will still need to work, but I am happy to call that independence for now!

Financial independence really is my goal for 2017. I am still not quite sure how I am going to get there so it may be a bit of a roller coaster but I am on the way ....... I need to start hanging out more on the savings and investments board, and learn a bit about investing rather than the playing about I have done in the past. So that will come in preparation for after Easter when we have "made that part" work.

Other goals are to build more a life I love rather than endure.

Inspired in part by AppleMuncher I am going to start with a 12 week plan to improve my health.

The first step is to get a better "getting up time". A low grade depression and frustration with how carp things have been and insomnia has meant I am losing a great part of most mornings. So that has to change now. I have been doing some research on line and have some ideas. I've stopped the pain killers I have been using for the shoulder pain and am going to just stick with the exercise plan. So week one the focus is on getting to bed, getting sleep, getting up. I've worked out some supplements to take, and I know I need to focus on drinking water. I also need to add back in the exercise and I want to try meditation as I think that will help. Rather than go for overwhelm, this week the focus is the sleep and drinking water!

Sadly he has no desire to be more independent. Or get back on his feet. However he does have carers that go in 4 times a day and is quite happy to let us continue to meet his needs. Which is why I am short tempered and frustrated with him now! However he does seem frailer this week so I am being kind.
Thanks so much for your input Alex. I think had you not made the insightful comment, I would have continued to blame puppy for the way I felt and not admitted it was really dad-in-law. Star turn there! And as a result puppy now has day care planned, doggy classes set up and even a once a month doggy social walk as I realised puppy needs to have plenty to do.
Expect puppy would send you thank you too if he understood!

:( re. the independence but it needs to come from the individual concerned. Perhaps worth explaining your frustration to him if he's having a good day?

Glad to hear I've been of help. :)

    All sounds brilliant. :)

As for getting up, may I join you? I have serious problems with going to bed at a reasonable time and getting up. As I am with my parents for the moment they are always up early and will get my son his breakfast. Had a really bad morning today and know I need to get back to the 11.00pm read, 11.30pm light out and 7.00am get up.

Hi Watty sorry to hear things are tough brilliant you have dealt with puppy and has a plan and I agree kitten is no extra work just help with rodents. My sister has a small holding with several horses and always have cats to help out they live in the barn too and become quite friendly. Just watch out for rat poison or poisened rats not good.

As for your fil sounds horrendous for you all really not an easy sitiuation especially if there's mental health. I work for a local Age UK and manage our direct payment team e.g where people can buy in there own care. Have you had your fil recently assessed he might be entitled to a bigger care package also watch out they have taken all his expenses into account such as travel etc etc.

Do come and hang out on the savings board there is loads of knowledgeable people on it I have learn so much. I'm going to use an IFA but only because it's a large sum but read the links they alway suggest for newbie it's about passive investing from the motivator it's in one of the first posts. I'm itching to get started and have joined the save £12k in 2017 so miss having a goal like when paying off the mortgage.

Sorry for the long post finally just wanted to say fully understand your frustration when people just assume you're around because you work from home. Time to tell them differently and learn to say no. Pester those social workers they should put more support in place as your local Age UK they should have load of information.

    Keep up the good work!

Please do. I really need to get this sorted. Was awake until 2 am and of course had a really bad morning as a result. Have now invested in a hop and lavender pillow. But getting to bed and lights out at a reasonable time would be good. I was aiming for earlier but I think realisitically I should start with 11 pm like you, lights out 11.30. So yes.... here goes with day 2!

Great ideas from Tallgirl and Smallholding Sister on two of my issues. Will look into both.
Spent today picking up kitty and setting her up in barn. Am now so worried about her being cold, but her pen (a dog crate) is sitting on hay bales and surrounded sides and back with hay as well so hopefully insulated a bit. The unit gave me a duvet so I am just going to wrap that around her sleeping pod/cat carrier that is in the crate so she will have added insulation.
Collecting her and setting up has taken all day.

I was awake until a similar time despite going to bed at a fairly reasonable time - had trouble getting to sleep last night. Forced myself to get up but really tired now. My son goes back to school on Wednesday, so that's an incentive for me as I don't want my mother having to take him. :o

    Cat will be fine. :)

My sleep is all over the place :( I'm normally an asleep by 11.30/ up at 6.15 person but Xmas break I've slept way more than that (not all in one chunk) and have still been tired. Couldn't get to sleep last night until nearly 1am, despite going to bed before 11 and struggled with a 7.05 alarm - snoozing it until 7.30. As I need to be up at 6.15 tomorrow for work (and all 3 boys are at school tomorrow) I hope tonight is better. Mind you, OH has fallen back asleep and is still in bed - so I've done better than him!

Here's to more of us having a better-sleep Jan! :D

Kitten didn't move all day yesterday. And didn't eat. Rang feral person for advice and concluded she was either very cold or suffering from post op complications from being spayed too young. Deciding to gamble it is the first, we then spent all evening coming up with a plan. Delighted with new neighbours down road. Chap on seeing a person with a torch by one of our barns came out to find out who/what. Full marks there! And then, discovering it was Mr Watty stayed for a chat and lent us an oil filled radiator. We then moved all hay bales, so kitty moved allowing us to see op wound was ok. Re built but with space around the pen, put in radiator standing on an aluminium plate, and put in a wooden roof with duvet on top. Kitty now has central heating! I think she was warmer than I was last night!

Plus new neighbour wants to remove a tree, which we have wanted down for ages as it is clearly unstable and may fall on our barn. So happy offered to pay half - yay! (Cheaper than replacing barn and feels like the right thing to do, as I am going to ask if they will take down the sycamore too). And he is going to take half my muck heap as wants to become self sufficient in veggies. As I pay for muck heap to be removed this will probably end up as a cash neutral transaction for me!
We really like new neighbour :)
