My mum generally has 2 dogs at a time - an older one and then a puppy - which then learns from the older (calmer) one. This time around she bought 2 Springer puppies - without having an older dog around. She admits now that it was a mistake (they are just 2 (maybe 3)) but obviously wouldn't get rid of them because of that. She has found it exhausting and a real challenge and it s only now that she has admitted she shouldn't have got 2 puppies within 2 weeks. kongs have been good for them but they have chewed lots of things and get through dog toys at a rate of knots!

thanks Alex, Elephant and Greent. We decided not to get a young dog with the Wattydog as we thought it would restrict the things we could do - its easy to take one dog to a pub, not so with two, for example. But with the perfect vision of hindsight Wattydog would have been a good teacher.
The mentally tiring stuck a reminder note as that was the one thing that wore out the Wattydog too.
Have resolved to try some clicker training with Puppy today and also told Mr Watty he has to take him to the next two Puppy Parties at vets. I can't do either but Mr Watty could. He didn't want to, but, he did want this pup so a hard line has been drawn.

Elephant - the plastic bottle was a huge success. Thank you. I actually managed to watch a bit of tv last night without the lunatic puppy.

Thanks to you all for not saying how awful I was not loving puppy. I have rung the breeder and as he has now bitten me more than once and I know he has puppy teeth but the bites have caused in a couple of places quite marked injuries and I am getting scared of him. She made some helpful suggestions which I will put into practice I felt her least helpful comment was no one else is having this problem but then they all have other dogs at home. Err...yes! You knew I didn't :(
Anyway Mr Watty is now home for 2 days and I am off for a couple of days with friends so I get a break. I think Mr Watty will do better than me if only because he is not working as well as puppy sitting.

Oy. That's only helpful if you then follow up with "if you'd like we have a lovely older dog who could use some peace and quiet and could come live with you for a few weeks to help puppy adjust". :( Hopefully the other suggestions work.

Of course you're not awful for not loving puppy. Especially while working, it's got to be extra aggravating/stressful. Fingers crossed MrWatty can make good progress while you get a nice break.
  • Hope you are enjoying your peaceful bark-free break.

I have no experience of puppies Watty, but know that my two kittens drove me up the wall sometimes when they were little - however cute and adorable they may be, baby animals are blimmin' hard work! So no way should you be judged for venting frustrations here!!

Thank you Themadvix, Elephant and Hidden Shadow. A bit of an update, someone has stolen devil puppy and replaced him with a rather calm cute chap. I don't know quite how that happened. Saturday devil dog and then overnight cutie puff puppy. Very odd :)

I had a wonderful break. One of my pals had all her spending money in £2 coins - she had been saving them all year. I thought that was a brilliant plan and am saving mine for the trip next year :) I have so far collected 3 coins - and I don't think I will notice the odd £2 coin going in a pot and if it makes saving money for next year's trip that would be lovely.
In other news the remortgage forms have all been filled in, just waiting for someone to call in and witness the last form and that should go through
Will catch up with diaries soon...need to catch up on work first!

  • Hey Watty. I find saying Ouch loudly in an upset voice stops them being so bitie. Well done for sticking with it!

Am glad puppy is being easier - long may it stay that way! :)

We save £2 coins - such an easy way to save and produces a decent sum of cash :)
