    Thanks AM

Just sorted car insurance. Original quote £401 for both of us as was joint policy. Got down to £327 and £60 cashback. Very happy with that.

converted E0n points to £10 worth of high street vouchers. Hopefully will arrive in time so can use towards the few small presents I have to buy. Am trying to think of as many ways as I can to save or raise a few pounds. Checked an online survey account and found that I had £1.94 I could withdraw. Not a lot but since I've given up doing them that was withdrawn to bank account. And scanned and sent off payslips re new mortgage on rental property so hopefully that is now a work in progress.

On the spendy side bought a book on puppy training for kindle as puppy remains handful. Read first few chapters - umm - I could be doing better! Can't adopt all ideas as an open plan house - but - have now bought a selection of Kong's on line for delivery tomorrow and will try following ideas to get puppy into being a toychewaholic rather than his latest passion which are papers in the office :)

Spent the weekend looking at more houses with friend. Viewed a couple of possibles. Sat and discussed in detail with Mr Watty and have decided it is a route we do not want to go down.

Meeting with accountant. He has helpfully identified a couple of areas I could save money on the business. Feeling grateful :)

feeling very down. the sad truth of it is I don't like living with a puppy. Oh he is a very cute puppy and a very nice puppy but I am so tired of being barked at by the pint sized thing and he is so hyper active. Despite toys and games and training he still does not seem to rest. I'm in my office to avoid going back in the house right now.

I haven't been on here in a while and hadn't realised you were looking to move.

As for the puppy, I found our difficult for the first six months or so and wondered if we'd made the right decision but now I'm really glad we've got her. Stick with it, IIRC you've got dogs or had them before so you know it does get better. :)

Well not really looking to move, really only considering if we can release some equity from the house. So the plan was to buy and renovate something with someone we know. But on reflection I think it might not be ideal.

I've had one dog yes you are right. But he arrived as a ready made rescue and was an easy chap really once we had worked out how to train him.

Thank you so much Alex, I'm really glad you wrote that you wondered if you had made the right decision as I am too. And finding this both difficult and depressing.

I think the idea of buying with someone else could be problematic in all kinds of ways, to be honest. I can see how releasing some equity could be tempting but as you own your house outright, your running costs for the house should be much lower which should leave you with more cash on a day to day basis.

Having a puppy is certainly different (and harder work ;)) than having an adult dog but in my experience it has been worth getting through the puppy stage.

I agree with Alex on both points! Sil & husband are always trying to get us to go in with them on things and I hate the ideas for so many reasons.

The only respite I found when our dog was young was when we tired him out mentally. We did ringcraft, showing & gundog training, just getting him out and about doing structured things with other dogs and people mainly, plus we walked him a lot on soft ground. Took him out whilst we did fencing, pulled ragwort, mucked out etc. This tired him out having to keep an eye on where we were! The kong was also our biggest help, we use cream cheese or cheap pate. The licking acts as a bit of a calming action for him. We also use treats to keep him busy in the evening & give us some peace, natural things to keep him busy a while like pigs ears or vanilla yoghurt pots frozen.

I've just remembered, a tip from our breeder was to give them an empty 2l plastic bottle (top removed), keeps them busy for ages but is very noisy! We went through loads of them when he was a puppy.
