Watty that girl sounds a bit of a toad.

Yes. Sad really as I thought she was a friend.

Emailed accountant today to ask him for details of how much I will owe Mr TaxMan at the end of January. No answer yet - probably means he hasn't worked it out! I have long had a hunch that he has some junior that does all the work and he just does the visiting and client facing as last time I saw him he was quite befuddled with the figures. So I imagine he has had to go and chase up poor junior. Hopefully will hear soon.

Had lovely lunge lesson during brief respite from weather but sadly the horse went lame. So, lesson stopped early and the centre gave me a credit for 50% of a lesson. Was chuffed as thought that was really nice of them as lesson was almost over anyway. Totally love the place as has really helped grow my confidence.

Saddle didn't sell and then so distracted Sunday forgot to re-list it under free listing. Will wait until there is another free listing weekend and try again.

So much for frugal january. Things not off to a flying start as barn broken into over the weekend. Nothing actually taken which was very odd, especially as there is a lot of stuff in there like tools and the quad bike. Police came out to give crime prevention advice which sorry to say was useless other than comment about getting the neighbours to trim the hedge that surrounds their garden and so prevents us seeing out (given layout of plot).

However a couple of friends have made comments and now £90 spent on security floodlights and £25 on a new lock for barn. Couple more security things being planned and now just off to see if neighbours will agree to be trimming (ahem) the hedge. For some bizarre reason they have planted laurels around their garden. Nothing against laurels but why they are letting them just grow and grow is beyond me ...they are currently at about 8 feet high and that was after I asked them to cut them down last year. The laurels prevent us seeing anything from the cottage so am going to make very nice request to cut them down on police advice. Fingers crossed! Am offering Mr Watty to do job so will be MSE for all concerned.

  • Sorry to hear about your break in, your doing the right thing protecting your property, would be worth telling your insurance company of your improvements as they may lower the value of your insurance premiums.

Fingers crossed that the neighbours want the plants trimmed. Would it help with security for their house as well, may be a plus point to sell.

Neighbours so do not want the hedge trimmed. She is paranoid us seeing into her garden. Heaven knows what she does in there!! And security wise she is fine with it as her garden totally surrounded by us. Am playing the "police said" and "my personal safety" card.

Oh bad news about the break in :(
Maybe put some signs up too - alarm monitored or beware of the dog (get a CD of dog barking too - might annoy your neighbour enuf to cut the hedge!)

Futher conversation with neighbour and she has agreed we can trim the hedge - if - we pay the person she wants to the job.

Not entirely happy about this as Mr Watty has the tools and can do the job so seems jolly silly to pay someone. But she is worried we will not take good care of her trees. Dear me, its impossible to kill laurels and the damm thing cannot be called a hedge at 8 foot tall.

Have said I cant afford to pay much so it bothers me paying someone when we can do the job ourselves - but - not wanting to be unreasonable - I have agreed to get her chappie to quote for the job and said we will take it from there.

Lets see what tomorrow brings on this one.

Neighbour husband came round today to "review the hedge trimming requirement" and is insistent his man must do but I must pay. Have agreed on basis happens quickly - and was told gardener would be here this afternoon. Was a no-show. Will give it a couple of days then review.

Remembered lovely chap in next hamlet whose house has so much security Mr Watty asked if I was taking him to meet a drug dealer or crime boss the first time we went there - so - have contacted chap to ask how he sorted his security as he turned out to be neither drug dealer or bigwig criminal but a hostage negotiator so bet he has some ideas!

Decluttered another shelf in office, under the stairs and a kitchen cupboard. Was listing a couple of books on Amazon and it wouldnt accept for some reason so have popped them on Green Metropolis. First time I've tried that site. Nearly bought a few but remembered the idea was to clear clutter and not spend so stopped in the nick of time :)

    Neighbour sounds a right knob.
I do believe if hedges intrude on your garden you are entitled to cut them so long as you give him the cuttings.
But is it height thats the problem.
    * there are ways to surreptitiously kill trees over a period of time, not something i would recommend, obviously....
