To be fair, I'd been awake since my post-Pilates nap at noon :rotfl:
Well done :j, exciting stuffA positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effortMortgage Balance = £0

So in a bid to lower our food bills Mr Watty and I went to Lidl today. It was on the way to the tip and we had a car load of stuff to go.
Its further for us to go - and - yes some of the veggies were cheaper but the selection was tiny and heavens it is summer and there was hardly any choice of veggies at all
A lot of stuff I buy a lot of they didn't stock (oat milk etc) and the teabags taste like cardboard. But I carefully made notes and came home and checked my bill against my nearest upmarket supermarket and - was astonished to see that the upmarket supermarket was actually cheaper on some stuff.
I fully accept that if I am prepared to buy factory farmed meat then the meat would be cheaper than my current mix of organic / local farmers but I'd rather just be veggie than do that. (And I'm not a veggie as I worked out it affects my mood too much to totally cut out meat and fish).
I was really surprised and somewhat disappointed.
This is also true of Ald! with some products and I have a little check list of those that are usually cheaper in Sbugs - but I check mysuperm@rket in case they've gone up. Teabags and tubs of marmite (a DS staple) I get at C0stco in bulk, piggybacking on a friend's membership, I appreciate not an option for everyone.
Back on the DFW Wagon:
CC - £3,300 on 0% til 04/2020
CC - £4,500 on 0% til 02/2019
Loan - £12,063.84 as at 4/1/180 -
Yep, I don't believe the hype about discounters either, even on price, let alone choice. Cornflakes are my thing - if you buy Basics/Smartprice whatever at a supermarket, they're 25 - 30p per 500g - you simply can't find that at a discounter. It's true that taste has gone downhill recently
but as I just mix them into my porridge for texture, thats not too bad

I looked into Costco but they are miles away.
Am wondering if farmers markets might be cheaper for fruit and veg?Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became

Although for anyone just dropping in I should explain that I didn't save all the money in 2 years - I reorganised our finances, used an endowment up, sold some shares, sold masses of stuff via ebay (some of which I regret selling now) and wiped out our emergency fund and borrowed from my company.
But the sheer relief of no more mortgage - something I was scheduled to pay until I was 68 years old - is huge - especially as my payments were high before I began this journey.Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became

Hi Watty,
I've not read your diary but had to follow you over from another diary when I saw your signature.
Massive congrats - that is a massive turnaround in 2yrs - how you did it is your fortune and hardwork - you still crossed the finish line and in record time too. Well done :T
