    Oh yes please do tell!!!!!

I have decided to let my mumt ake me wedding dress perussing... I am happy to grab something closer to the time, off a rack or what not but i have realised it is actually a big day out for her even if there is no fitting. I'd love to know what goes on so i don't look like an idiot in the shop!

Sounds like you had a great time runaway bride.

scmp my advice would be to wear half decent underwear and you just go in and pick what you like, depending on the sales woman she might ask you what your looking for, pick a few and try them on. In my case i wore a slip because i hated the lack of privicy you get when they physically dress you. If your not wanting to buy i would have an excuse ready ie i love this one but want to bring my sister, also i would have a sneak peek at the prices before ypu try them on. That way you cant fall in love with a dress you cant afford.

my dress was in the sale (mum kindly bought it for me) but i just dont think i could have spent thousands on a dress even if i thought it was the one.
  • i would definately agree about the underware lol, but im not that self concious to worry too much, after 3 kids iv been on display in alot more embarrassing situations lol, and my feeling is the sales woman isnt going to care as shes seen it all before as she does this job every day, but thats just me i know my sister would be horrified if she had to strip off infront of a sales assistant. saying that my sales assistant was lovely she gave me the underskirt and said to undress and put that on and then call her back so basically the only thing on show was my bra.
my excuse was that i needed to transfer money between accounts in order to pay deposit which gave me time to come home and think about it and trawl the web looking for something cheaper, unfortunately in my case other than risking a chinese seller i couldnt find anything similar and to order from a shop takes 6 months so if id waited in the hope of finding one i would of missed the deadline to order. dont worry though they ask you your budget before you start so if you really cant juggle finances from elsewhere dont be tempted to look at more expensive dresses i started off saying budget of £300 but none of the dresses where any good so then i said £550 and found my dress but i knew that i would be getting xmas money and i was prepared to cut back on reception in order to get my dress it depends how much of a priority it is. before i started planning when i pictured my wedding the first thing i saw was the dress so it was my priority.
my definition i cant understand people paying thousands for a dress either what exactly are they paying for that is so much better ?
iv done 3 things right in my life and their all perfect

Runawaybride dont feel like you have to justify your dress you saw what you wanted and while it was more than you wanted to spend its a good price not the 2 3 thousand that some people spend. I just couldnt justify it, yes its your wedding dress and you hopefully only do it once but wouod you not rather have a good start to a marriage with a nice honeymoon or with no debt hangingover you?

Anyways in other news i got my invitations today!!! I got the fright of my life aswell as they seem to have included 10 of someones christmas cards and thought theyd sent the wrong thing. I think there polish have no idea what they say! I have still to check the numbers but im excited they look good, though the return addess labels are rather smaller than id hoped. Hope the postmans got his specs.
  • hope everyone had a good christmas once new years over the serious wedding planning starts lol.
phew bet you were relieved the invites were there my def  im making mine so need to finalise guest list with OH so i can order stuff he doesnt see the rush as we wont be sending them till june but i want them out of the way so i can concentrate on other things men
we wont have any debt after the wedding its all being paid for before hand. i have a budget of £2000 and i have to stick to it so if i over spend in one area i have to cut back in another.::p we have been together 10 years and have 3 kids. so our life together is pretty much sorted and the 'honeymoon' will be a week away at butlins with the kids :rotfl: which suits us fine, their too young for us to leave them and go on holiday i wouldnt be able to relax so thats all sorted. we were going anyway as id booked it before he proposed as our family summer hols.
this week i managed to get the napkins for the reception in tesco sale pale blue pearlised supposed to be 'xmas' but no actual xmas or winter markings so will look lovely. and only cost £3.60 for 100. i also have just about enough amazon vouchers via survey sites to get my shoes:T

    Merry Christmas!

oooh what shoes are you going for? i want pumps as im going to be on my feet all day and intend on dancing the whole night, im thinking red tartan or purple (i think i have a tiny rebel in me :rotfl:)
purple will fit the colour scheme and tartan because im scottish (even though the tartan oh will be wearing is blue:rotfl:)

I admire the budget though mine is rather more at 7000  it was officially 8 but im determined to get it below 7. but again i will not be in debt after it. were also buying a house in june, not maybe the most clever idea but oh well so anything we go over in the wedding means less nice things in our house.

youve done very well on the napkin front though, i like the sound of the blue. a bargain at that price :money:

we have a set number to the day and the invites came in multiples of 10 so we worked out what we thought we would need and rounded it up. HOWEVER vistaprint have very kindly printed double the amount of our day and night invites so we have more than we need now :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: bit strange as theyve not sent double the envelopes or rsvps so im assuming theyve printed them twice by mistake and sent them anyway. :rotfl:
  • lol i thought of tartan as we are getting married at gretna green :D but iv gone traditional as iv seen some rainbow club ivory with tiny chrystal embelishments on amazon which will match my dress perfectly. cant remember the exact name il post it later so you can have a look. im having a subtle scottish theme for our reception though so if you have any ideas lol. im having scottish shortbread as favours (we both love shortbread) and im using horseshoes on invites etc (to represent blacksmiths shop lol) i wanted pale blue tartan ribbon but i cant find it anywhere :( so im going to use pale blue ribbon and some white heather to decorate candles favours etc. im hoping i can buy an anvil in gretna to use as a cake topper if they have the right style/size without costing a fortune, and then il get a set of wedding ring decorations to lean against it. only a couple of weeks till we anounce the engagement and tell DS and niece we are getting married cant wait to start planning with my niece instead of doing it all on my own. no one else will know until we are mr & mrs lol.:rotfl:
today i got real pearl necklace for niece £16 instead of £85 in clearance( i thought i was going to have to buy fake pearls for her so im delighted.)
2 pairs of cream slippers with crystal and ribbon embellishments in primark for £3.50 each for me and niece (we NEED wedding getting ready slippers :p) i also got canvas bags with initials on for niece and DD to keep all there bits in. and we looked at wedding rings :T

  • You will needto put in a link for the shoes.

were not doing many scottish things at the wedding, though ofcourse we are haging kilts. We may bsbhaving tartan on the wedding cake but there is a debate there lol. Oh and my flowers are thistles and roses.

    well done on the pearls.

ive picked my wedding ring but we know a guy who makes his own high quality stuff for less than the cost in the shops so we will need to visit him and see if he can do it for me. Thing is hes a total pain and half the time does what he wants rather than what you want so you have to be very stubborn. Its a good thing hes very good at what he doesotherwise no one would put up with him.
  • oooo love the sound of the bespoke ring. mine will be shop bought but im finding it hard to find what i want within budget i like the idea of a celtic design to remind me of the wedding in scotland but cant find what i like. i wanted tartan ribbon round the cake but our colour scheme is pale blue and as iv said it doesnt exist lol. im having silk flowers ivory roses with other flowers, pearls and pale blue ribbons. i wanted thistles but not sure if i can get them have to wait till early feb when shop has new selection of flowers so i can pick.

  • It sounds posher when you say bespoke lol i know what so i will show him and cross my fingers he doesnt argue with me. I got my engagement ring there yonks ago but its a silly shape so i need a crossover ring or somthing with a chunk cut out of it so my engagement ring fits in. Top tip for people who get to pick their ring dont get something with an unusual shape lol

ive got my flowers booked, pretty sure you could get thistles there quite common for weddings up here, you could get a thistle cake topper if you cant get the anvil

This is my tartan, happy my oh picked it cause my name is douglas :)

i wouldnt stress to much about the scottish touches it sounds like you have a nice subtle theme there
  • the tartan is a lovely colour are you matching the rest of your wedding to it? i always think it looks lovely when people do that. the scottish theme is more for the reception back home (north east) as nobody will be there when we actually get married in scotland lol so i thought id bring it into the reception. i hope you get your ring sorted you'll just have to be very assertive. iv now found the stuff for the rest of my 'wedding party' from bhs cornflower blue is the colour. OH and DS both have suits so im just getting them waistcoats and ties and a matching set for little DS he will look so cute. and dresses for the two girls i can get everything for £275 so im pleased with that.
