How much is a pint in your local?

Last time we were up visiting family found very little difference between prices in Glasgow and South East, just outside London. Over £3 a pint and that was local out of city centre pubs.
Yup, I was talking to my friend who moved to Bristol 10 years ago but still returns to Glasgow a few times a year. She said that at first she was shocked in how expensive Bristol was compared to Glasgow, but now there isn't really much difference.0 -
£3 to £4The reason that pubs are going out of business, has nothing to do with the cigarette ban, but everything to do with the price of a pint.
The last time we went to a pub was back in March, just an ordinary little pub in the country near Canterbury.
Two drinks (a pint of Spitfire and a whisky and coke) cost nearly nine quid.
I much prefer to buy beer and wine in France, where the quality is better, and the beer is fantastic. Even the Shepherd Neame beers are cheaper than here, and I have to pass Faversham (where it is brewed) to get to Dover.0 -

I can partially agree with that; drinks are generally too expensive. Other things contribute as well though, as a student, one thing that I hate is inconsistent pricing, some of the pubs/clubs I frequent can charge £1.50 for a bottle of beer one night and £3.50 the next, it's just offputting when you don't know what you'll pay for the same drink on a different night.
Additionally, and possibly harder to pin down is the notion of groups of friends "not fancying" certain pubs. In my hometown on a Friday/Saturday night most of the pubs are packed, but some pubs on the high street we just never went to, had no love for, for no apparent reason, they weren't any worse than other pubs we just didn't go and that eventually, one or two of the less-popular-for-no-reason pubs went out of business.
I didn't hang around in pubs when the smoking ban came into effect here in Scotland (2006), I was only 12 then, but in my mind the smoking ban can only have been a good thing. I would be less likely to go to a pub if I knew it'd have smoke lingering in the air. Consequently, I don't know anyone of any age who doesn't go to the pub because they can't smoke inside.0 -

£2 to £3Over £1 of the cost of your pint goes to the government in tax.0

£3 to £4Agree on the post above about a glass of coke being the same price as a pint of lager.
A lot more pubs these days are doing cheap food and expensive drinks.
So for example you always see posters in Marston's pubs saying 2 meals for £10, and then a pint is about £4. Because people are used to paying that then, it becomes the norm.0 -
£4 to £5Depends what I am drinking. Can usually get a pint of lager (such as Carlsberg) for £3-4 depending on the pub. But in London it is common to pay over £5 for Magners, Rekorderlig, or a special beer such as Meantime.
Even most Wetherspoons in London are averaging £4 a pint now, but can stll get some beers & ciders for £2.50-£3.50.0 -
£1 to £2£1.70 for a pint of Strongbow in the Lloyd's bar Corn Law Rhymer in Rotherham!!!0
